Early outfits offered experimentation and visual impact; more recently, she has described dressing from feeling and personal taste. The shifts are easiest to understand by separating her everyday clothes, performance wardrobe, and red-carpet fashion.
How Karol G’s style developed
The timeline below draws on a retrospective published by PEOPLE en Español in 2022. It is a later account of her public looks, not a first-person record of every styling decision, so individual outfits are useful markers rather than proof of a formally planned fashion era.
Before wider recognition and 2016: streetwear and experimentation
Before her career took off, Karol G performed at family quinceañeras with J Balvin and wore her natural brown hair, according to PEOPLE en Español. The retrospective describes streetwear elements in 2016, including Adidas sneakers and leather joggers. It also notes an icy-blonde bob at a red-carpet appearance that year—an early example of how her hair could make a look immediately recognizable.
2017–2019: performance looks and teal
PEOPLE en Español says her performance outfits began to show more of what would become her signature look in 2017. At the 2018 Latin Grammy Awards, she wore a teal dress; the retrospective says the shade became more visible the following year. That sequence makes teal a recurring visual marker, but it does not establish that one dress started a trend.

“Tusa” and 2020: hair color in the public image
The same retrospective associates a pastel-purple hairstyle and pink makeup with the “Tusa” music video, then records her debuting teal hair at the Latin American Music Awards in November 2020. These examples show how hair color became a prominent part of her public image. They do not, on their own, tell us why she chose each color.
What makes the looks feel connected?
One useful way to compare her outfits is to ask where she wore them, what references or construction they used, and what the look communicated. This is a reading of the reported outfits, not a framework Karol G has said she uses herself.
- Setting: A casual streetwear look, a stage costume, and a red-carpet gown serve different purposes. The same artist can move between them without needing one silhouette to define her whole style.
- References and construction: Her wardrobe has included sporty contemporary pieces, 2000s references and vintage clothing, as well as formal designer looks.
- Purpose: Some outfits prioritize visual impact; others express a mood, personal taste, or the character of a particular performance.
Stylist Alba Melendo described the aesthetic as urban with strong 2000s touches and said the team worked extensively with vintage pieces. In a Vanity Fair España interview, Melendo cited secondhand shopping in Los Angeles and examples including 2001 Dolce & Gabbana boots, Roberto Cavalli shirts, and a 1992 Jean Paul Gaultier corset paired with a Margiela bracelet for the “Gatúbela” look. Those details describe the stylist’s approach to particular outfits, not a claim that every look was vintage or Y2K-inspired.

How setting changes the look: performances and formal events
Her later public appearances show why it is misleading to describe her style as one consistent formula. A Vogue España fashion gallery documents a white top with cargo pants for a 2023 performance, pink Balmain gowns in two different looks at the 2023 Latin Grammys, a white two-piece performance outfit at Billboard Women in Music 2024, a Zuhair Murad gown for that event’s award moment, and a Marc Jacobs corset-and-metal structure for her first Met Gala in May 2024.

The contrasts are as revealing as the designer names: cargo pants and a sporty top read differently from a gown or a sculptural corset, and a performance outfit has a different job from formalwear. Vogue España characterizes her range as spanning sportswear to haute couture, with street-style and sensual elements. The gallery supports that range; it does not mean every look shares the same styling intent.
What Karol G says about her style now
In an ELLE interview published October 29, 2025, Karol G contrasted her earlier desire to prove something and choose what looked impressive with a more personal approach: she now dresses according to what she feels. She described her on-stage style as “feelings put into clothes” and said she had become “more and more loyal to myself”—choosing what she genuinely likes rather than following what is popular.

That perspective helps connect the variety of her looks without treating them as a makeover with a single destination. In discussing her nine-piece Diesel collaboration, she described its duality as “street and sensual, romantic and disruptive, girly but tomboyish.” The capsule included denim, metallic textures, a swimsuit, and a co-designed bag. She connected denim with her urban side and orange with the tropical mood of that album period. These are descriptions of a dated collaboration, not a guarantee that its pieces remain available.

A July 23, 2026, Vogue interview reports that Karol G and stylist Brett Alan Nelson had worked together for seven years. Vogue describes a shift from chasing cool looks toward using style to say something. For the tour, the team built around the idea of the Latina showgirl, with six segments drawing on Etro, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, and Chrome Hearts. The report says the wardrobe was adjusted about every two weeks on the road; that is a tour-production detail, not a general schedule for her clothes.
The tour account extends the self-expression she discussed with ELLE into a specific stage concept. It also shows why her performance clothes should be read on their own terms: a tour wardrobe can be designed around a character and set structure, while her casual looks and formal appearances answer different needs.
How to borrow the style without copying a specific outfit
Her reported looks offer broad ideas rather than a single uniform to reproduce. For a casual reference, Vogue España’s gallery documents cargo pants with a sporty top, while the styling coverage also notes 2000s influences. Women’s Y2K cargo pants can evoke that general combination, but they are not the same garment or brand as any item Karol G wore.
Quick Recap
- For an urban, casual feel: Start with relaxed cargo pants and a simple sporty top.
- For a vintage reference: Mix one secondhand or archival-inspired piece with contemporary basics, following the kind of contrast Melendo described.
- For a more expressive look: Choose a color, texture, or silhouette that conveys a mood instead of trying to replicate a specific red-carpet or stage outfit.
