Footage from Blue Origin’s April 14, 2025, New Shepard flight shows Katy Perry and the other five crew members floating inside the capsule during a brief spell of weightlessness. The group faces the camera and says “taking up space” together. The clip is from a suborbital flight, not an orbital trip around Earth.
What the capsule video shows
Blue Origin shared interior footage of the six crew members floating after the capsule reached weightlessness. The Independent describes them moving around the spacecraft before gathering to face the camera and say “taking up space.” Perry is shown in the video floating upside down, though the available reporting does not specify when that movement happened or how long she held the pose. The Independent’s account of the clip
Which flight was it?
The video comes from NS-31, Blue Origin’s 31st New Shepard mission, which launched from West Texas on April 14, 2025. The six crew members were Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyễn, Gayle King, Katy Perry, Kerianne Flynn and Lauren Sánchez. Blue Origin’s mission announcement
New Shepard carried them on a short, automated suborbital arc above the Kármán line region, then returned to West Texas. The Associated Press reported an altitude of 66 miles (107 kilometers) and a flight of about 10 minutes. Space.com described the flight as about 10.5 minutes, including roughly four minutes of weightlessness. These are rounded estimates; the passengers did not circle Earth in orbit. What Katy Perry did during the flight
She sang “What a Wonderful World”
After landing, Gayle King revealed that Perry sang “What a Wonderful World” during the flight. Perry said she chose it for the group and for the view of Earth, rather than to perform one of her own songs. “It’s about a collective energy in there. It’s about us,” she said, describing the moment as making space for future women and appreciating the planet. CBS News report
She brought a daisy
Perry also carried a daisy, connecting the flower to her daughter Daisy and to resilience. She said daisies can grow through difficult conditions and called the flower a reminder of Earth’s beauty. CBS News reported her explanation after the flight. CBS News report
