Catherine, Princess of Wales, wore a gold lace evening coat and Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara to the state banquet at Windsor Castle on 17 September 2025. The banquet honored U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump during their state visit to the United Kingdom.
What Catherine wore to the state banquet
People’s report, syndicated by Yahoo News, credited the outfit to British designer Phillipa Lepley. It described a full-length, hand-embroidered gold Chantilly lace evening coat worn over a silk crepe gown. The look paired a richly textured outer layer with a simpler gown beneath it.
The headpiece was identified in the report as Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara. The Royal Collection Trust lists the tiara as a collection item; its reference does not, by itself, establish further details about its history or use at this event. Royal Collection Trust

The state banquet took place at Windsor Castle on 17 September 2025 as part of the U.S. president and first lady’s state visit. The Prince and Princess of Wales’s social caption, reproduced in the People/Yahoo report, read: “Ready for The State Banquet”. The report credited the photograph to Matt Porteous.

Is the outfit available to buy?
The report attributes this couture look to Phillipa Lepley, but the available coverage does not establish that the original coat and gown are sold as a ready-to-buy outfit. A gold lace evening gown is an inspired-by alternative, not an exact match: compare lace color and texture, silhouette, and whether the design is a single dress or a coat worn over a separate gown.
