His remarks left open what might happen—and whether the idea would ever become a project.
What did Jerry Seinfeld say about the ending?
At Boston’s Wang Theatre, an audience member asked Seinfeld whether he liked the sitcom’s finale. CBS Boston reported that he replied: “Well I have a little secret for you about the ending.” He later added: “Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending. . . hasn’t happened yet.”

Seinfeld also said: “And just what you are thinking about, Larry and I have also been thinking about. So you’ll see.” The Guardian published a slightly different transcription of the live remarks, including the lead-in “Here’s what I’ll tell you, OK, but you can’t tell anybody.” These are reports of what he said onstage, not a formal project announcement. CBS Boston; The Guardian.
Is there going to be a Seinfeld reunion or revival?
The October 2023 tease did not confirm that a reunion or revival was in production. Seinfeld’s wording suggested he and co-creator Larry David had considered an idea connected to the ending, but neither a format nor a schedule was specified in the reports. A new ending, a reunion special, or a new season are possibilities viewers might infer from the hint; they were not announced plans.

The “25 years after” framing refers to the anniversary surrounding the 2023 remarks: the finale aired in 1998. It should not be read as a current countdown or as evidence that a project followed. The two reports establish what Seinfeld said then, not whether anything has since been announced or produced.
What happened in the Seinfeld finale?
Seinfeld ran for nine seasons, from July 1989 to May 1998, according to The Guardian. In the two-part finale, Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer are put on trial after they joke about a man being mugged rather than helping him. Past characters return as witnesses, and the four friends ultimately end up in prison. The Guardian.

The finale drew 76.3 million viewers for NBC in 1998, according to CBS Boston. That audience figure helps explain why the ending became such a major event, but it did not make the episode universally popular. CBS Boston.
Why was the finale divisive?
The finale reunited a long list of characters to testify against the four leads, then ended with the central group behind bars. The Guardian reported that critics described it as “off-key and bloated.” Some viewers also objected to an ending that judged the friends’ behavior rather than giving them a more conventional farewell.

Larry David acknowledged in 2014 that some people “hated” the finale. As quoted by The Guardian, he suggested that viewers often imagine their own ending and may be disappointed when the broadcast version differs. Seinfeld later reflected on the pressure to deliver a large final event: in a 2017 New Yorker Festival interview quoted by The Guardian, he said, “I sometimes think we really shouldn’t have even done it,” and argued that “big is always bad in comedy.” He described comedy as “small and cheap and quick.” The Guardian.

The finale’s scale and mixed reception gave Seinfeld’s remark its charge. The Television Academy’s 2015 retrospective called the series “the show about nothing,” described it as influential in the modern sitcom, and noted that it had “turned 25 this month.” A suggestion that its creators had revisited the ending therefore invited speculation, even though the remark itself revealed no concrete plan.
