Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen. The Ten Shadows Technique is Megumi Fushiguro’s inherited Zenin technique: he uses shadows as a medium to summon shikigami. But having the technique does not mean he can freely command every summon. The shikigami must be subdued to become controlled allies, and Mahoraga is the extreme, dangerous case.
What is the Ten Shadows Technique?
Ten Shadows (十種影法術) is an inherited technique associated with the Zenin clan and used by Megumi Fushiguro. Its user summons shikigami—supernatural familiars—through shadows. In other words, the shadows are the technique’s medium; the summons are not ordinary animals or simply creatures Megumi creates at will.

The manga is the primary source for the technique’s fictional rules. A secondary reference summarizes its inheritance, shadow-mediated summons, and taming requirement, but those details should not be mistaken for a complete, chapter-by-chapter account of canon. VIZ provides official Jujutsu Kaisen manga access.
How does Megumi summon and control shikigami?
Summoning and mastery are separate. The technique gives its user a means to call shikigami, but the described system requires a shikigami to be subdued through an exorcism process before it can serve as a controlled ally. So the answer to “Can Megumi control all ten shikigami?” is not simply yes: access to the inherited technique does not confer immediate control of every summon.
#1 Best Overall
- Comes with secure packaging
- Care instruction: Keep away from fire
- It can be used as a gift
This distinction matters when reading a summoning scene. A shikigami appearing does not, by itself, prove that Megumi has mastered it or can safely direct it. The technique is better understood as a constrained system of summons and control than as a menu of freely available helpers.
How does Mahoraga fit into Ten Shadows?
Mahoraga is the technique’s high-risk exception, not an ordinary controlled companion. The secondary reference describes it as exceptionally powerful and uncontrollable until subdued, and reports that Megumi understood no previous Ten Shadows user had exorcised it. The key distinction is that invoking Mahoraga is not the same as taming it; a summoning can put the user and others in danger rather than provide a reliable ally.
Rank #2
Mahoraga is also associated with adaptation in the manga. The details and limits of that ability should be grounded in particular manga scenes rather than generalized into a complete rule set from a brief summary. Without that close reading, it is safest to say that adaptation is part of how Mahoraga is portrayed, not to claim a universal formula for what it can withstand or how quickly it adapts.
What is established, and what is interpretation?
The core explanation is straightforward: Ten Shadows is a fictional inherited technique that uses shadows to summon shikigami, and controlling a summon is distinct from being able to call on the technique. Mahoraga illustrates the danger of treating every summon as a tameable tool.
Broader claims—such as what shadows symbolize, whether the technique is inherently stronger than another technique, or how its rules apply in situations not directly shown—are interpretation unless tied to specific manga evidence. The available source material does not establish a reliable ranking against Limitless or a universal power hierarchy.
