Warner Bros. confirmed that John Goodman suffered a hip injury while filming Alejandro González Iñárritu’s then-untitled movie starring Tom Cruise. Goodman received immediate medical attention, and the studio said the injury briefly delayed shooting; production was expected to resume the following week after his full recovery. The film is now titled Digger, and Warner Bros.’ official site says it is playing in theaters.

What Warner Bros. confirmed about Goodman’s injury

In a statement quoted by TheWrap on March 8, 2025, a Warner Bros. Pictures spokesperson said: “Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury.” The spokesperson added that Goodman “received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”

The statement establishes the injury, immediate medical attention and a brief production delay. It does not provide a diagnosis, describe the treatment, or say how the injury occurred. The recovery update was the studio’s expectation at the time of the March 2025 report, not a current medical update.

What secondary reports said about the incident

The Independent reported that filming paused for two days and attributed to Deadline the account that Goodman slipped while blocking a scene at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. Those specifics come from secondary reporting, not the Warner Bros. statement quoted by TheWrap.

The film is now titled Digger

In the 2025 injury coverage, the project was still described as untitled. Warner Bros. has since identified it as Digger, an Alejandro G. Iñárritu film starring Tom Cruise in the title role, with Goodman among the cast. The studio describes the story as one about a powerful world leader trying to prove he is humanity’s savior before a disaster he unleashed destroys everything. See the official Warner Bros. film page for the studio’s synopsis and current details.
