The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation acknowledged Joanna Carson’s passing in a remembrance posted on July 30, 2025. The foundation wrote: “Remembering ETAF’s dear friends and supporters, Joanna Carson and Wallis Annenberg, who embodied our Founder, Elizabeth Taylor’s spirit of love and support.” LateNighter reported the foundation’s remembrance on August 5. Extra reported her death on August 3 and gave her age as 93.

Who was Joanna Carson?
Born Johanna Ulrich, she was also known as Joanna Holland and Joanna Carson. She worked as a fashion model and philanthropist and later produced Broadway shows. Johnny Carson’s marriage to Joanna Holland in 1972 is recorded in the Library of Congress finding aid for the Johnny Carson Papers, revised in 2020.

Their divorce was settled in 1985; Extra described the settlement as $20 million in cash and property. That is a reported figure, not an independently audited total.

The similar names can cause confusion. Joanna Carson, also known as Joanna Holland, was Johnny Carson’s third wife. His second wife was Joanne Copeland Carson; their marriage ended in 1972. Joanne died in 2015 at 83, as The New York Times reported. The two women were different people.
