Why Jimmy Kimmel Joked His Show Had to “Stay on the Move So the FCC Can’t Get Us”

Jimmy Kimmel made the “stay on the move” joke while announcing that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would broadcast from Brooklyn the following week. It came shortly after the show returned from a brief suspension, but the reports do not establish that the FCC ordered, threatened or caused the Brooklyn trip.

What did Jimmy Kimmel say?

On the September 25, 2025, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel said the program was broadcasting from Los Angeles and would be in Brooklyn the next week for a run of shows at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. He then joked: “What we have to do now is stay on the move so the FCC can’t get us.” AOL’s account of People’s report places the line after the show’s suspension and return to air.

Why did he bring up the FCC?

The timing made the FCC a punchline: Kimmel was talking about the show’s next stop soon after it had resumed following a short hiatus. A separate Geo.tv report likewise connects the joke to the temporary halt and the upcoming Brooklyn broadcasts.

That context does not show that the regulator prompted the trip. The reports establish the joke, the recent hiatus and the scheduled Brooklyn run; they do not document a specific FCC action that caused the dates to move. Kimmel’s line is a joke, not evidence that the FCC was pursuing the program.

Where was the show going, and had it been there before?

The announced destination was the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The Brooklyn run began September 29, 2025, and a later AOL/People account described it as the show’s seventh visit to the venue. That report said the program had returned six days earlier after a six-day hiatus.

What audience and preemption figures did Kimmel mention?

In a report on the remarks, TooFab attributed two figures to Kimmel: more than 21 million YouTube views for the Tuesday monologue and preemptions in 60 U.S. cities. Those are Kimmel’s reported claims, not independently verified counts in the cited account.
