Entertainment Tonight reported in February 2017 that Slate and Evans started dating in May 2016. The report also said they made their red-carpet debut together the following month at the New York premiere of The Secret Life of Pets. The first breakup and Slate’s explanation
Entertainment Tonight reported on February 8, 2017, that the couple had split a few weeks earlier. Slate later described pressures surrounding the relationship rather than naming one definitive cause. She spoke about Evans’s fame and the public attention it brought, as well as the difference between his level of privacy and her own. She also said she was dealing with the end of her marriage and did not feel equipped to manage a divorce and a new relationship at the same time. Slate described the strange contrast between her ordinary freedom and Evans’s global fame, saying his Captain America status changed everyday activities such as going to a restaurant. She also spoke warmly about him: “Chris is truly one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, to the point where sometimes I would look at him and it would kind of break my heart.” Reflecting on the relationship, she added, “No regrets, though. After the reported split, Evans praised Slate in a March 2017 interview with People, calling her “my favorite human.” At the Gifted premiere in April, Slate described him as “an absolutely, really giving performer and a wonderful actor,” while Evans said, “She’s the best.” Their public comments showed warmth, but did not by themselves confirm whether they were dating again. Was there a reunion?
Yes, a reunion was reported in November 2017. TIME reported that People had confirmed Slate and Evans were back together, citing a joint real-estate-shopping outing in New York and exchanges on social media. The article did not reproduce a detailed statement from either person, so the reunion is best described as a reported development rather than a publicly explained reconciliation.
