Jesse Plemons addressed speculation that he used Ozempic after a visible change in his weight, saying the timing of his decision to get healthier led people to make assumptions. His comments were reported by The Independent from a Los Angeles Times interview published June 13, 2024; they do not independently establish whether he used the medication.
What Jesse Plemons said about the Ozempic rumors
In the Los Angeles Times interview, as reported by The Independent on June 14, 2024, Plemons said: “It’s really unfortunate that I decided to get healthy when everyone decided to take Ozempic.” He added: “It doesn’t matter, everyone’s going to think I took Ozempic anyways.”

Those remarks respond to speculation; they are not confirmation that he took Ozempic, nor a denial that he did. The published account does not provide an independently verified medical history.
How Plemons described his weight change
The Independent reported that Plemons connected his decision to get healthier with getting older and with his role in the 2024 film Civil War. He also said that several people had talked with him about intermittent fasting, so he tried it and was surprised by how quickly it worked for him.

What Ozempic is—and how its listed use differs from Wegovy
Ozempic is a prescription injection containing semaglutide. The current U.S. label on DailyMed, updated June 1, 2026, gives its initial U.S. approval year as 2017. FDA lists Ozempic and the semaglutide tablet Rybelsus for type 2 diabetes, while Wegovy, which also contains semaglutide, is listed for obesity or overweight. Brand names and indications are not interchangeable.

FDA also lists tirzepatide brands Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound for obesity or overweight; tirzepatide acts at GIP and GLP-1 receptors. These are regulatory indication distinctions, not a comparison of which treatment is more effective or safer.

The Ozempic label carries a boxed warning: semaglutide caused thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents, and whether that risk applies to humans is unknown. The label says Ozempic is contraindicated for people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). This summary is not a substitute for the full prescribing information or medical advice.
Compounded semaglutide is a separate issue from Plemons’s comments. FDA says compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and are not reviewed for safety, effectiveness, or quality before marketing. Compounding may be appropriate when a patient’s medical need cannot be met by an FDA-approved drug or when that drug is unavailable, but FDA has reported dosing errors with compounded injectable semaglutide, including cases involving hospitalization. Compounded formulations should not be assumed equivalent to an FDA-approved product.
