The Independent reports that the marriage ended in June 2002 and their divorce was finalized in 2003; CBS News likewise described the marriage as ending about a year after it began.

Those accounts document a relationship that began through their work, a marriage, and its end. They do not establish a scandal at the outset. The dates here are reported timeline details, not independently verified court records.
How Lopez and Casper Smart’s relationship unfolded
Lopez began dating backup dancer Casper Smart in 2011, after separating from Marc Anthony, according to ABC News. CBS News reported the relationship in November 2011 as dating news.

The 2014 split and the allegations
In June 2014, ABC News reported that the couple had split nearly two months earlier and cited a source who said the relationship had run its course. The same report addressed circulating accounts of messages and photos involving Smart, but quoted a source saying the reported online activity occurred while he was single and was not the reason for the breakup.
The Los Angeles Times’ contemporaneous report also framed the messaging claims as reports and included a denial. Neither account establishes cheating as fact or proves it caused the split. The allegation should not be recast as a confirmed explanation.

The reported reconciliation and 2016 ending
Reports later indicated that Lopez and Smart had reunited. In August 2016, the Los Angeles Times reported another split, while noting conflicting accounts about whether the pair had definitively separated in 2014. The public timeline is therefore on-and-off, not a clean sequence with a settled date for every change in status.
What “scandalous from day one” gets wrong
That phrase is a headline judgment, not a conclusion established by the reporting. For Judd, the accounts support a work-related meeting, marriage, and later divorce. For Smart, they document a relationship, a reported breakup and reconciliation, and disputed tabloid claims around the 2014 split. They do not establish private motives or a definitive cause for either relationship’s end.

Coverage of Lopez and Ben Affleck’s wedding plans is a separate story, not evidence about her relationships with dancers. TIME recounts their 2003 joint statement that they were postponing their wedding “due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding.” That statement concerned the couple’s own wedding plans and should not be folded into claims about Judd or Smart.
