New images from Kiss of the Spider Woman introduce the film’s split between prison life and the Technicolor musical world imagined by one of its inmates. Jennifer Lopez plays Ingrid Luna, a fictional screen diva at the center of that fantasy; Diego Luna and Tonatiuh play the cellmates whose story frames it.
What the new images promote
Paris Filmes announced the images on 19 December 2025 as part of the film’s Brazilian campaign. Its announcement also provided links to download the poster and images, but does not establish worldwide reuse rights. Publications should use only assets cleared for their own use. Paris Filmes’ announcement.
The Brazilian cinema release date announced at the time was 15 January 2026. That date has passed; it was specific to Brazil, not a global release date. The film had premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, and Paris Filmes also listed screenings at Locarno and Morelia.
Who Jennifer Lopez plays—and how the story works
The story follows Valentín, a political prisoner, and Molina, a window dresser imprisoned for public indecency, sharing a cell in Argentina. They form an unlikely bond as Molina recounts his favorite Hollywood musical, whose fictional star is Ingrid Luna, played by Lopez. Diego Luna plays Valentín, and Tonatiuh plays Molina.

The film moves between the prisoners’ reality and the musical Molina describes. Sundance places the story in 1981 and highlights its intersection of Argentina’s Dirty War, the old Hollywood studio system, trans rights and a love story. The festival describes 11 musical numbers and a visual contrast between harsh prison life and Technicolor fantasy. Sundance’s feature on the film.
A film with both literary and stage-musical roots
Kiss of the Spider Woman draws on Manuel Puig’s novel and Terrence McNally’s stage musical. Sony’s credits name Bill Condon as director and screenwriter, John Kander for music, and Fred Ebb for lyrics. The film therefore has a musical lineage as well as a literary one; Puig’s novel is the source book, not a film novelization. Sony Pictures’ film page and credits.

At Sundance’s post-premiere discussion, Lopez said, “That’s why movie musicals are so important.” She also described “the importance of love and just seeing each other as human beings, and how love can shorten the gap of any divide between people.” Director Condon said at the premiere, “I don’t think there’s a better way to bring a film into the world than to premiere it at Sundance.”
