A man accused of driving through the gate of Jennifer Aniston’s Bel-Air home was charged with felony stalking and felony vandalism in May 2025. He pleaded not guilty. A judge later found him not competent to stand trial and suspended the criminal proceedings; the latest located court report, published October 4, 2025, said the judge had not yet decided on treatment and placement.
What prosecutors allege happened
On May 7, 2025, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, of New Albany, Mississippi, had been charged with one count each of felony stalking and felony vandalism in case 25ARCF00790. The office said he was accused of repeatedly contacting the victim, identified in its release as Jennifer A., through unwanted social media messages, voicemails and emails from March 1, 2023, through May 5, 2025. The DA’s charging announcement describes these as allegations, not established facts.
According to prosecutors, at about 12:20 p.m. on May 5, 2025, Carwyle drove through the front gate of the victim’s Bel-Air residence, causing substantial damage, and stopped in the driveway. The Los Angeles Times reported that the homeowner was at the property and police arrested Carwyle after responding. The arrest and charges do not establish guilt.
Charges, plea and initial case details
Carwyle pleaded not guilty at his May 8, 2025 arraignment. The DA’s May 7 release said prosecutors alleged an aggravating circumstance involving a threat of great bodily harm, intended to request $150,000 statutory bail, and said that conviction as charged could carry three years in state prison. Those were charging-stage statements, not a final bail ruling or sentence. The release also states that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

What happened in court after the crash?
May 2025: competency proceedings begin
At the May 8 arraignment, the court initiated competency proceedings. On May 29, after a second psychiatric evaluation agreed with the first, a judge found Carwyle not competent to stand trial and suspended the criminal proceedings. The Associated Press reported Judge Maria Cavalluzzi’s statement: “The court finds the defendant is not currently competent to stand trial. Criminal proceedings will remain suspended.” The AP’s May court report covers the finding.
October 2025: treatment and placement still under consideration
At an October 3 hearing, as reported by the Associated Press on October 4, the judge had not decided on treatment and placement and was considering a mental-health treatment alternative to imprisonment. The AP report describes that hearing. The latest located report is from October 4, 2025; it does not establish whether proceedings later resumed or whether the case reached a final disposition.

What the case status does—and does not—mean
A finding that a defendant is not competent to stand trial is a court ruling about the ability to proceed at that time. It is not a finding that the defendant committed the charged conduct, and it is not a verdict or acquittal. In this case, the May 2025 ruling suspended the criminal proceedings; the October report described the court’s consideration of treatment and placement, not a final resolution of the charges.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in the charging announcement: “Stalking is a crime that can quickly escalate from harassment to dangerous, violent actions, threatening the safety of victims and our communities.” That is the prosecutor’s comment on the case and stalking generally, not a judicial finding about Carwyle.
