Jenna Dewan and Steve Kazee first met briefly in 2012, years before they began dating. Their relationship was publicly reported in October 2018; they became engaged in February 2020 and have two children together. As of an October 2, 2026 report, they were still engaged and planning a wedding, with no date announced.
2012: Jenna Dewan first sees Steve Kazee on Broadway
Dewan has said that she and her mother saw Kazee perform in the Broadway musical Once, then met him briefly at the stage door. In an interview with The Knot, she recalled a moment of mutual recognition: “I was pushing her forward to say hi, and Steve and I just had one of those eye-catching moments.” The encounter was memorable, but it was not the start of their relationship.
April–October 2018: Their romance becomes public
April 2018: Dewan and Channing Tatum announce their separation
Dewan and Tatum announced their separation after nearly nine years of marriage. The announcement provides context for the timeline, but public accounts do not establish that Kazee caused or prompted the separation. The Associated Press reported that Dewan filed for divorce six months later; a judge declared them divorced and single in November 2019. Their remaining financial and custody dispute was settled in September 2024. Those later legal milestones are distinct from the 2018 separation announcement.

Dewan later recalled that Kazee sent her a direct message featuring a GIF of basketball player Steph Curry “shooting a shot.” She initially misunderstood what he meant. Her recollection was reported by Us Weekly after she discussed it on a podcast in 2024.

October 2018: Dating is reported
People reported that Dewan and Kazee were dating in October 2018. Later timeline coverage described them as having been together for a couple of months by then. October is therefore the public reporting point, not a confirmed date when their private romance began.
December 2019: Dewan talks about their connection and pregnancy
In a December 2019 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dewan described the connection as “unspoken chemistry” and said she was in love. The couple were preparing to welcome their first child together.

February 2020: Kazee proposes
The couple announced their engagement in February 2020, while Dewan was pregnant with their son Callum. She later told The Knot that Kazee proposed at her baby shower, which she also described as a blessingway. He had written an original song and sang the proposal into it: “He had written this song and halfway through he sings, ‘will you marry me?’” Dewan said her older daughter, Everly, knew about the plan.
March 2020–June 2024: They welcome two children
- March 2020: Dewan and Kazee welcomed their son, Callum, their first child together.
- June 2024: They welcomed their daughter, Rhiannon, their second child together.
Dewan also has a daughter, Everly, with Tatum.

In February 2026, Dewan told People that they were planning a wedding and getting closer to it: “We’re planning on it. We’re getting closer.” The October 2, 2026 Cosmopolitan timeline described them as engaged after a six-year engagement and said their three children would have roles in the ceremony. It did not report a wedding date or venue. This is the latest status in the cited coverage, not a guarantee of their status after that report.
