Jelly Roll called Eminem one of his “childhood heroes” after appearing on “Somebody Save Me,” the closing track of Eminem’s 2024 album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). The song samples Jelly Roll’s “Save Me,” and the collaboration prompted him to describe how Eminem’s writing had made him feel understood.
What Jelly Roll said about Eminem
In an appreciation post shared around the album’s July 12, 2024 release, Jelly Roll recalled growing up able to recite Eminem songs and relating to their words. As reported by Countrytown, he wrote: “I always say my childhood hero’s lived somewhere between Willie Nelson and Eminem.”

He also described a rare sense of connection with Eminem’s lyrics: “I related to every word Eminem wrote. I understand him and felt like he understood me, which was rare cause I spent most of my life feeling misunderstood.”
Why the collaboration moved him
Jelly Roll connected his admiration for Eminem to his own early experiences in music. He recalled entering Nashville freestyle cyphers and battles after bonding out of jail at 17, and said Eminem’s writing resonated with him during that period.

The reported post says Jelly Roll was brought to tears when he learned Eminem would sample his song. His words, as reproduced by Countrytown, were: “So you can imagine how I felt when I got that the call that Eminem would be sampling my song ‘Save Me’ on his new album.”
He said the song’s use gave the collaboration an additional emotional meaning: “And for him to use the song to discuss the other side of what could’ve happened if he would’ve allowed his demons to win brought me to tears.” That is Jelly Roll’s characterization of the track’s meaning, not a clinical or independently established account of Eminem’s life.
