Its informal-looking, illustrated design drew attention before the couple married in Venice on June 27, 2025.
What did the invitation say?
CNN’s June 25, 2025 report quoted the invitation’s request as “please, no gifts.” A charitable note reproduced by Vogue said contributions were being made “on your behalf” to organizations working on Venice’s cultural heritage, lagoon habitats, and sustainable solutions.
The note, as Vogue reproduced it, read: “Donations on your behalf are being made to the UNESCO Venice Office to safeguard this city’s irreplaceable cultural heritage, to CORILA to restore the vital lagoon habitats that protect Venice’s future, and to Venice International University to support research and education for sustainable solutions.” It also said: “This magical place has gifted us unforgettable memories. Our hope is that through these efforts and by you joining us, Venice will continue to inspire wonder for generations to come.”
The three named organizations
- UNESCO Venice Office: safeguarding Venice’s cultural heritage.
- CORILA: restoring lagoon habitats.
- Venice International University: supporting research and education for sustainable solutions.
Why did the invitation attract attention?
The reported design struck some observers as an unexpected contrast with the profile of the couple and the scale of public interest in their wedding. CNN described a wistful italic typeface and illustrations including doves, shooting stars, butterflies, the Rialto Bridge, and two gondolas. It characterized the artwork as resembling generic clip art, and reported online criticism of the design. The Guardian also described doodle-like artwork and noted online speculation about its origin.

That speculation does not establish how the invitation was made. The available reporting does not identify its designer, printer, paper stock, or supplier, nor does it confirm that the artwork was AI-generated. “Shocking” is a subjective description: the attention came from the contrast between an informal-looking invitation and a very high-profile wedding, not from evidence of anything unusual in its wording.
When was the wedding?
CNN’s invitation report appeared on June 25, 2025, before the ceremony. Bezos and Sánchez married in Venice on June 27; Vogue’s June 28 explainer also reported a post-wedding party that day. The invitation story was therefore a pre-event account of a revealed portion of the invitation, rather than a new wedding announcement.
