Yes. Contemporary reports said Gloria Carter, Jay-Z’s mother, married her longtime partner, Roxanne Wiltshire, in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood in early July 2023. Accounts differ on the exact day, so the wedding date is best described as taking place over that weekend.

Carter married her longtime partner, identified in most reports as Roxanne Wiltshire. The ceremony was reported to have taken place in Tribeca, a neighborhood in New York City. The Independent described the wedding as occurring over the preceding weekend; The Advocate also reported a New York City ceremony.
When was the wedding?
Contemporary accounts disagree on the precise date. An Associated Press report republished by FOX 13 gives July 1, 2023, while other coverage describes a Sunday-night celebration or places the wedding on July 2. The reports agree on early July and Tribeca, but the available accounts do not establish one uncontested day.
Why do reports spell her partner’s surname differently?
The surname appears as “Wiltshire” in The Advocate and the AP report republished by FOX 13. The Independent’s headline uses “Wilshire,” while its article body uses both spellings; Essence also uses “Wilshire.” This article uses “Wiltshire,” as in the assignment’s title, while recognizing that published coverage varies.

Who was reported among the guests?
Entertainment coverage named Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Blue Ivy, Tina Knowles-Lawson, Kelly Rowland, Tyler Perry, Robin Roberts, and Corey Gamble among those attending. Guest lists differed between reports, so these names should be understood as people reported to have attended, not as one definitive, independently verified list.

The wedding drew attention in part because Jay-Z had previously discussed his mother’s coming-out story. The Independent reproduced Jay-Z’s account this way: “For her to sit in front of me and tell me ‘I think I love someone,’ I really cried…I cried because I was so happy for her that she was free.” The wording and punctuation here follow the outlet’s reproduced quotation.

The broad account is consistent across contemporaneous coverage: Carter and Wiltshire married in New York City in early July 2023. The exact date, surname spelling in some publications, and complete guest list are not consistent across reports. The Independent said it had contacted Carter’s representatives for comment; the coverage cited here does not include a direct statement from the couple or a primary wedding record.
