At Star Wars Celebration Japan, held April 18–20, 2025, Lucasfilm previewed projects across film, animation, games, mixed reality, publishing, merchandise and theme parks. The major screen announcements included Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, the animated series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord and a third volume of Star Wars: Visions. The dates and production plans below are those announced at the event; they do not confirm each project’s status as of October 2026.

Film: Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling’s Starfighter
Lucasfilm announced Star Wars: Starfighter on April 18, 2025, naming Shawn Levy as director and Ryan Gosling as its star. Gosling was described as playing a new character, rather than a previously established figure from the franchise. The story was placed approximately five years after The Rise of Skywalker.
The StarWars.com announcement said production was expected to start in fall 2025 and situated the film among several theatrical projects then in development. That is what Lucasfilm reported at Celebration; it is not confirmation here of the film’s present production status or eventual release date.

Animation: a Maul series and two Visions projects
Maul – Shadow Lord
Sam Witwer made a surprise appearance at the Lucasfilm Animation panel to announce Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. Set after the final season of The Clone Wars, the series was described as following Maul as he tries to rebuild his criminal syndicate and gain control over underworld factions. Its setting is a planet untouched by the Empire.
Lucasfilm reported the series in production and announced a 2026 Disney+ debut. Because that date has passed, the April 2025 announcement should be read as the plan at the time, not as a current premiere confirmation.

Visions Volume 3
Lucasfilm announced nine new animated shorts for Volume 3 of Star Wars: Visions, with an October 29, 2025 release date. The event report gave no reason to treat that date as a current availability notice; it is the date announced in April 2025.
The Ninth Jedi becomes a longer-form spinoff
The Celebration announcement also introduced Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi, a longer-form spinoff of Kamiyama’s Visions short. Kamiyama was named supervising director. The story centers on Kara, whose father invented lightsabers that change color depending on a person’s Force; he has been kidnapped. Kamiyama said, “I think it will be a story where those secrets will be told.” The report did not give the spinoff a release date.

Mixed reality: podracing in Beyond Victory
ILM and Lucasfilm presented Star Wars: Beyond Victory as a mixed-reality project in development for Meta Quest, set around the time of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Its story follows young podracer Volo Bolus and Sebulba. Rather than describe it simply as a conventional racing game, the announcement emphasized three distinct ways to play:
- Adventure: Combines virtual and mixed reality.
- Arcade: Puts podracing on a mixed-reality holotable.
- Playset: Lets players stage scenes with unlockable virtual figures and vehicles.
Celebration attendees were able to try Quest demos, and an original prequel comic was distributed as a booth giveaway. Neither the demo access nor the giveaway establishes a general release date. Jose Perez III, the project’s director at ILM, said, “Our goal at ILM has always been to find new and exciting ways for players to experience Star Wars stories.”

Games, publishing, merchandise and parks
The event’s announcements extended well beyond film and television. StarWars.com’s Celebration roundup also included Star Wars: Zero Company, new publishing projects, LEGO and Hasbro products, and a planned change to the Millennium Falcon attraction. These were separate pieces of event news, not a single release slate.
- Game: The roundup included Star Wars: Zero Company.
- Publishing: Lucasfilm highlighted new manga, novels and art books.
- LEGO: Announced products included a K-2SO Security Droid build set and BrickHeadz Ahsoka and Jaxxon. The roundup also covered LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past.
- Hasbro: The event roundup named additional figure announcements, without establishing current retail availability.
- Galaxy’s Edge: A Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run update was announced for May 22, 2026. That date has passed; the 2025 announcement does not verify the attraction’s present operation or configuration.
How to read the Celebration announcements now
Celebration 2025 was a cross-media preview, not a promise that every announced project would arrive on the same timetable. Its clearest dated plans—fall 2025 production for Starfighter, a 2026 Disney+ debut for Maul – Shadow Lord, the October 2025 date for Visions Volume 3 and the May 2026 attraction update—are all statements made at the time. The official event reports establish what Lucasfilm announced, but should not be used alone to claim present availability, production status or park operations.
