What PerthNow reported about the photo
In an article by Taylor Renouf, PerthNow said Cassidy had shared the photo for Payne’s birthday more than a year earlier. That account identifies the image as a throwback; it does not establish the original upload timestamp from first-party Snapchat records. PerthNow’s report, published 17 October 2024, is the source for these details.
Why the image appeared around the time of Payne’s death
The report said Cassidy had already left Buenos Aires, leaving Payne to continue the holiday alone. It also said it was believed Payne’s Snapchat account was not being run by him and that someone on his team had scheduled posts. PerthNow presents the scheduling point as a qualified claim, not a confirmed identification of who posted or scheduled the content.
The article also refers to a separate selfie captioned “Lovely day in Argentina” and a post with the wording “Happy I got some time away” followed by a heart emoji. The report does not independently establish who scheduled those posts.
