At a May 2024 Q&A, Lady Gaga said she had been writing and producing songs for an unnamed new studio project, describing the music as unlike anything she had made before. The project was later referred to as LG7; the later album release was MAYHEM, issued on March 7, 2025.
What did Lady Gaga say about her new music?
Gaga made the remarks at the Los Angeles premiere Q&A for Gaga Chromatica Ball. Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans conducted the conversation on May 23, 2024; Rolling Stone Canada published its report the following day.
She said: “I have written so many songs, I’ve been producing so many songs, and it’s nothing like anything that I’ve ever made before.” Gaga also said, “I love to break genre and I love to explore music.” Rolling Stone Canada reported the remarks, with contemporaneous coverage also documenting the Q&A.
What did she mean by “the art of intensity”?
Gaga connected her creative process to the 2022 Chromatica Ball tour, which Rolling Stone Canada described as a 20-date trek. She said: “Something I’m definitely exploring right now is sort of the art of intensity and I think that the art of intensity actually began during this tour.” In context, she was describing an influence on her approach to making music—not announcing a genre, track list, or album title.

Was she talking about MAYHEM?
Not by name in the 2024 Q&A. Rolling Stone Canada’s report described new studio work but did not identify an album title. Later in 2024, Variety referred to Gaga’s forthcoming seventh studio album as “LG7.” It distinguished that studio project from Harlequin, which Variety described as a companion album to Joker: Folie à Deux. Variety’s later coverage provides that distinction.
The later studio release was MAYHEM. Universal Music Italia lists the Lady Gaga album with a release date of March 7, 2025, and lists standard vinyl and CD editions. The label’s catalog entry documents those formats. Gaga’s official store separately lists a CD box set, but the 2024 quote itself should not be recast as naming any of these editions.

How the announcement fits the film premiere
The Q&A took place ahead of the screening of Gaga Chromatica Ball, the concert film documenting the tour she referenced. At the time, Rolling Stone Canada reported that the film was scheduled to premiere on HBO and Max on May 25, 2024. That was the announced schedule then, not confirmation of where the film can be streamed now.
