The latest TRON: Ares trailer reaches back to 1982: it opens with a young Kevin Flynn playing the original TRON arcade game, then returns him to the Grid where Ares encounters a digitized Flynn. That throwback connects the new film’s journey from the digital world into the real one with the franchise’s starting point.
What happens in the TRON: Ares trailer?
The trailer begins in Flynn’s arcade, with a younger Kevin Flynn playing the 1982 TRON game. He is pulled into the Grid, the digital world at the heart of the franchise. Later, Ares encounters a digitized Flynn in that original Grid.
The trailer’s bridge between its worlds is captured in Flynn’s line: “Our worlds are more connected than anyone knows.”
How does TRON: Ares connect to the original film?
The return to the original Grid makes the 1982 game more than a passing visual reference: the trailer places Flynn and Ares in the digital setting that began the franchise. At the same time, the film’s premise points outward. A highly sophisticated Program named Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with AI beings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The trailer therefore sets up two directions of travel: Flynn is drawn into the Grid, while Ares is sent out of it. Their meeting ties the new story’s real-world premise to the franchise’s original digital setting.
Does Kevin Flynn return in TRON: Ares?
Yes. Jeff Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn, and the trailer depicts Ares meeting a digitized version of Flynn in the original Grid. The available account does not establish more about the circumstances of Flynn’s appearance, so it is best understood as a trailer reveal rather than a full explanation of his role.

How does the film fit into the TRON series?
TRON: Legacy ended with Sam Flynn stopping the digital world from bleeding into reality, thwarting Clu’s plan, and leaving with Quorra. A third film was greenlit in October 2010 to continue Sam and Quorra’s story, but was canceled by 2015. The project was revived by 2020 as a standalone reboot rather than a direct Legacy sequel. Ares had appeared in versions of the script before the project was reimagined, according to Ars Technica’s retrospective account.
