What happens to Jack at the end?
Late Night with the Devil follows Jack Delroy’s Halloween broadcast of his fictional late-night show, Night Owls, on October 31, 1977. The special brings together a psychic, a skeptic, a parapsychologist, and a young girl said to be possessed. The film largely unfolds in real time, according to the IFC Center film listing.
In the final sequence, Jack appears to recognize that he has committed murder. That is one way to orient the ending’s events, as recounted by The Wrap’s ending explainer. The film’s visual shift and Jack’s apparent realization invite a further question: are viewers seeing events as they happened, as Jack experiences them, or something else?
What do the directors say the ending means?
Colin and Cameron Cairnes have said they intended to leave room for viewers to decide what the ending means. In an interview, they raise several possibilities: the events could be real, in Jack’s mind, in Carmichael’s, or a form of misdirection. They do not identify one of those readings as definitive.

The brothers describe the appeal of that uncertainty this way: “So we love the idea that people can draw their own conclusions as to, you know, yeah, what it all means.” The interview transcript does not identify which brother speaks that line. You can read the Inside Reel interview transcript.
Is a Late Night with the Devil sequel confirmed?
No sequel has been confirmed in the available filmmaker or distributor statements. A secondary report discusses the possibility after the film’s success, but speculation is not evidence that a sequel is in development, cast, or scheduled for release. The distinction matters: the sequel remains unconfirmed, not officially announced or ruled out.
