Larian Studios announced Divinity, a new role-playing game set in Rivellon, on December 12, 2025. Its cinematic reveal trailer premiered during The Game Awards 2025. The announcement confirms the game’s title, setting and broad ambitions—but not its release date, platforms or gameplay systems.
What is Larian’s new Divinity game?
Divinity is a new RPG from Larian Studios, set in the world of Rivellon. The studio called it its most ambitious title yet, and its official game page describes a project with broader and deeper ambitions than its previous work. Those are Larian’s descriptions of the project, not independently measurable comparisons.
The official page’s tagline reads: “The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers stir.” It establishes the announcement’s ominous tone, but does not spell out the story or explain what those phrases mean in play.
What does the brutal trailer confirm?
Larian’s announcement says the reveal trailer was shown live during The Game Awards 2025. Its cinematic presentation and dark framing introduce the mood of the new game; a trailer alone does not confirm specific playable systems, encounters or content ratings. “Brutal” describes the trailer’s tone, not an official age rating or a verified description of gameplay.

Larian founder and game director Swen Vincke described the project in the announcement as the culmination of the studio’s past work: “Despite our long history with the series, this is our first game entitled ‘Divinity.’ We’re ready to bring everything we’ve done previously into one place. This marks the beginning of something with more breadth, depth, and intimacy than anything we’ve created before. We’ve been building toward this moment ever since we took our fate into our own hands. This is the Divinity we’ve always wanted to make and you’re going to have loads of fun with it.” This is Vincke’s promotional description of the game, not a list of confirmed features.
Is Divinity a sequel to Divinity: Original Sin 2?
Larian has not described the new game as a direct sequel to Divinity: Original Sin 2. The studio says players do not need prior experience with its games, while people who played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 can gain greater understanding and continuity. That points to connections with the franchise’s history without establishing a direct sequel relationship.
