Lucía Esparza Baena es una periodista colombiana cuya trayectoria incluye Caracol Radio, CityTV y RCN. En 2025 contó públicamente que había vivido un diagnóstico de cáncer de mama y una recaída que, según dijo entonces, había superado. Ese testimonio también dio contexto a Luchadores, un pódcast de relatos de personas que han vivido la enfermedad.
Quién es Lucía Esparza Baena
Esparza es una periodista colombiana que ha trabajado en radio y televisión. Su recorrido profesional aparece documentado en publicaciones de distintas épocas: en 2008, PRODU informó que comenzaría a presentar noticieros de RCN los fines de semana y festivos, y reseñó su experiencia en 24 Horas, Noticiero de las 7, Caracol Radio, La FM y CityTV. Qué contó sobre su experiencia con el cáncer
En una entrevista publicada y actualizada por People en Español el 7 de febrero de 2025, Esparza relató que una masa que su médico dejó tras una revisión terminó convirtiéndose en cáncer. Al describirlo, dijo: “Tomó la decisión errónea, se convirtió en cáncer”. La frase recoge su versión de lo sucedido; las fuentes disponibles no permiten verificar de forma independiente los detalles clínicos ni establecer que hubiera una investigación o una determinación formal de negligencia. La entrevista refiere que el diagnóstico ocurrió después de aquella revisión. Por separado, El Tiempo informó en 2019 que el diagnóstico de cáncer de mama había sido en 2011 y mencionó varios ciclos de radioterapia, sin precisar cuántos. En el relato de 2025, Esparza también habló de una recaída que dijo haber superado y afirmó que entonces “no tengo rastro de la enfermedad”. Es una declaración referida a lo que contó en esa entrevista; no confirma su estado de salud actual. Tampoco convierte su experiencia personal en una guía médica ni demuestra que una actitud positiva cure el cáncer.

Cómo nació el pódcast Luchadores
Luchadores se estrenó el 4 de febrero de 2025, fecha que la cobertura vinculó con el Día Mundial de la Lucha contra el Cáncer. La serie se planteó como una sucesión de testimonios de personas conocidas que han vivido la enfermedad y hablan desde su experiencia como pacientes. Esparza presentó el proyecto como una forma de volver al ejercicio periodístico mediante conversaciones con testimonios positivos y esperanzadores. Su interés está en escuchar experiencias personales y compartirlas; el pódcast no sustituye la información clínica ni ofrece una conclusión médica general a partir de historias individuales.
