The excerpts were shared in Lauren’s interview with Seven’s Liz Hayes; they are not presented as a complete entry or confirmed as the last words Jock wrote.
What Lauren said Jock wrote
In a May 4, 2025 report, PerthNow recounted Lauren Zonfrillo’s conversation with Seven’s Liz Hayes for 7NEWS Spotlight. Lauren said Jock had kept a journal for a period and that reading his account of an ordinary family conversation meant a lot to her.
As reported by PerthNow, Lauren recalled that Jock wrote he was happy the family was “finding our feet.” He was excited about raising “these little Aussie-Italian-Scottish children,” and wondered what their daughter Isla’s accent would sound like once she spoke in full sentences.
She also said he wrote about missing bedtime with the children: reading books and doing the different voices. He looked forward to joining them in Italy, where Lauren and the younger children were living after the family relocated to Rome.

Another passage, as printed by PerthNow, described Lauren as capable and said Jock was proud of her for doing hard things. Lauren said she returned to the journal for encouragement when she felt she could not manage.
These are reported excerpts, not a complete final entry
PerthNow’s account conveys Lauren’s recollections and selected quotations; it does not reproduce the full journal entry. The available report does not establish that these were literally the last words Jock wrote before his death. They are best understood as passages Lauren shared from a journal he had kept for a period.

The report said Jock travelled to Australia to film MasterChef while Lauren was in Italy. It reported that he died in a Melbourne hotel room in April 2023, and that his cause of death had not been revealed at the time. The journal passages do not establish a cause of death, and no connection between the two should be inferred.

Lauren’s book, Till Death Do Us Part: Life Without Jock and Learning to Live with Intention, is a memoir about life after Jock’s death; it should not be assumed to contain the journal entry. The Australian Women’s Weekly’s April 2025 article about the memoir describes it as both memoir and guidance for people grappling with grief. Its later tribute coverage provides broader family context, not independent confirmation of the journal passages.

For a different perspective, Jock’s memoir Last Shot is presented by its publisher as a story of addiction, ambition and redemption. It is background on Jock’s life rather than a source for Lauren’s account of the journal.
