A September 2018 PerthNow report said an unnamed worker at Langtrees described staff as being made to act as “babysitters” for former AFL player Ben Cousins. The story also cited an email signed “Girls of Langtrees,” which made separate claims about the support he received. These were allegations attributed to the worker and email—not findings that the report independently established.
What the Langtrees worker said
In a report published on 2 September 2018, PerthNow journalist Kate Campbell wrote that Cousins had become a regular at Langtrees’ Burswood premises after Mary-Anne Kenworthy invited him to stay in an apartment there. An unnamed worker told PerthNow she first saw him at Langtrees around May 2018 and described him coming downstairs for breakfast.
The worker said some staff avoided Cousins as a client, while others were willing to provide paid sexual services. She also alleged that workers were asked to look after him when Kenworthy did not want him to be alone. The worker’s quoted description was: “Girls were made to be his babysitter.” The phrase “at his beck and call” came from the report’s headline; it was not presented as a direct quotation from a named source. Read the PerthNow report by Kate Campbell, 2 September 2018.
What the email alleged
The article also reproduced an email signed “Girls of Langtrees.” That email alleged that Kenworthy provided Cousins with accommodation, meals, clothing, drivers and escorts, and asked workers to adjust their shifts to look after him. Those claims belong specifically to the email’s account; they should not be treated as independently verified details. PerthNow reported that Kenworthy declined to comment on the workers’ claims.

Kenworthy’s earlier account
In a separate PerthNow report published on 26 August 2018, Kenworthy said Cousins had stayed in her apartment and that she had been helping him until he became erratic. That was her account in the earlier report, distinct from the later allegations attributed to Langtrees workers. Read PerthNow’s 26 August 2018 report.
Keep the allegations separate from later proceedings
The Langtrees story concerned workers’ claims about Cousins’ stay and the demands they said were made of them. It did not establish those claims as fact. A later PerthNow report, published on 5 March 2019, said Cousins pleaded not guilty to 14 offences and that drug charges were dealt with separately. That procedural account is not a complete record of subsequent outcomes and should not be read as evidence that he was convicted of the offences to which he pleaded not guilty.
