Jason Derulo, LAY Zhang and NCT 127 released “Let’s Shut Up & Dance” on February 22, 2019. The track was announced as the first single from The Greatest Dancer, a planned four-song EP and box set inspired by and dedicated to Michael Jackson’s art. The single and video release are documented; the label’s planned June 25, 2019 box-set date is an announcement, not confirmation that the set was issued.
What is “Let’s Shut Up & Dance”?
It is a collaboration by Jason Derulo, LAY Zhang—credited on the release as LAY—and NCT 127. Apple Music’s US catalog lists it as a single dated February 22, 2019. 7SIX9 Entertainment’s release-day announcement also reported that the single and its video were available online.
The label framed the song as a Michael Jackson tribute: it described The Greatest Dancer as a four-song EP and box set inspired by and dedicated to Jackson’s art. That makes the connection a project-level tribute, rather than evidence that the song is a direct cover of a particular Jackson recording. 7SIX9’s February 22 announcement presents the project and its creative credits.
What was announced about The Greatest Dancer?
On February 19, 2019, 7SIX9 announced the song’s upcoming release as the first installment of the planned tribute project. The sources establish that plan, but do not establish that the EP or box set was ultimately released or is currently available. The confirmed release to distinguish from that plan is the digital single and video.
