Jarann is a 2025 Marathi horror-thriller written and directed by Hrishikesh Gupte, with Amruta Subhash playing Radha, a mother caught between a frightening supernatural possibility and the fragility of her own reality. In her 6 June 2025 review for Scroll, Nandini Ramnath praises Subhash and the film’s atmosphere, while finding weaknesses in its family dynamics and twist-heavy climax. That is one critic’s assessment, not a consensus verdict.
What is Jarann about?
Radha has faced hardship since childhood, which the film connects to Ganguti (Anita Date), a woman regarded as a witch. After a recent mishap, Radha consults psychiatrist Dhananjay (Kishor Kadam). A visit to her ancestral home with her daughter, Saie (Avanee Joshi), draws Ganguti’s influence back into Radha’s life, and Radha fears her daughter may be affected too.
The story’s tension depends on uncertainty: is Radha confronting a curse, or is psychological distress shaping what she experiences? ZEE5’s synopsis frames the past curse as resurfacing, while the film’s official trailer poses the question of fate versus black magic. Those are elements of the film’s premise, not evidence of supernatural events outside it.
What does the review praise?
Amruta Subhash’s performance
Ramnath’s strongest praise is for Subhash, whose expressive range and empathy give Radha’s fear emotional weight. The role asks her to register both terror and the possibility that Radha’s perceptions cannot be trusted; the performance is the review’s clearest reason to watch.

Atmosphere and craft
The review also singles out Milind Jog’s creeping camerawork, Abhijeet Deshpande’s transitions and AV Prafulla Chandra’s ominous score. Together, those elements help sustain a grey zone between occult belief and psychological fragility rather than reducing the story to a straightforward explanation.
What are the review’s reservations?
Ramnath finds Radha’s family implausible in light of what the film later reveals. She argues that the story sidesteps the family’s role to preserve suspense, leaving an important part of the character drama underdeveloped. The twist-heavy climax, in her view, also weakens the film’s thematic treatment.

That leaves a useful distinction for prospective viewers: the review is more enthusiastic about Subhash’s work and the movie’s sound and visual mood than about the logic and resolution of its story. Viewers who value atmosphere and performance may respond differently from those who need a tightly reasoned family drama or a thematically firm ending.

Is Jarann well reviewed?
The assessment above comes from Ramnath’s single Scroll review and should not be mistaken for an aggregate. Rotten Tomatoes’ title page showed zero critic reviews and fewer than 50 audience ratings when viewed; that platform snapshot is too limited to represent broad audience opinion. The sources cited here do not establish a box-office figure.
