Jamie Foxx said in his 2024 Netflix special that doctors told his family he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke in April 2023. He recalled a severe headache, losing consciousness before he could take aspirin, and later realizing he could not remember 20 days. Foxx said the cause remained unknown to him.
What Jamie Foxx said happened
In Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, Foxx recounted that the episode began in Atlanta on April 11, 2023. He said he developed a bad headache and asked for aspirin. “Before I could get the aspirin I went out,” he said, adding, “I don’t remember 20 days.” ITV News reported the remarks on December 10, 2024, as part of its coverage of the special: ITV News.
Foxx said his sister, Deidra Dixon, took him to Piedmont Hospital. According to his account, a doctor told Dixon that Foxx had a brain bleed leading to a stroke and needed an operation. This is Foxx’s public recollection of what doctors told his family; medical records or an independent clinician’s account have not been made public in the sources cited here.
What “I don’t remember 20 days” means
Foxx described a gap in his memory. His words do not establish that he was unconscious for exactly 20 days, so the statement should not be treated as a measured duration of unconsciousness.
