The studio said in May that the casting search was underway; producer Amy Pascal said in August that a casting announcement by year-end was “a good bet.” That is an expectation about casting, not a confirmed date for the film.
Why is Bond 26 taking so long?
The next film is still taking shape after a major change in who controls the franchise’s creative direction. Amazon MGM gained creative control over future Bond productions in March 2025, following an arrangement with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Amazon had previously held distribution rights. The transition is important context, but public statements do not establish it as the sole cause of the film’s timetable. Amazon MGM’s March 2025 announcement described the change.
The studio has since assembled the principal creative team and says it is proceeding carefully. In April 2026, Amazon MGM head of film Courtenay Valenti said the studio was “taking time to do this with care and deep respect.” That describes the studio’s stated approach; it does not provide a production schedule or prove why any particular milestone is taking time. The Associated Press reported Valenti’s remarks at CinemaCon.
A key piece of work remained outstanding in the latest studio update: casting. In May 2026, Amazon MGM said the search for the next Bond was underway and declined to discuss specific details while it continued. Casting is a meaningful step still in progress, but no public statement cited here says how long it will take or when filming will begin.

What is confirmed about the next Bond film?
Amazon MGM has named the creative leads, but it has not announced the new Bond actor or a release date in the updates cited here.

In August 2026, Pascal said that a casting announcement by the end of the year was “a good bet.” This is her forecast, not a studio promise or a confirmed announcement date. GamesRadar+ reported Pascal’s comment.
When is the next James Bond movie coming out?
There is no official release date established in the sources cited here. The most current reported window in this timeline is 2028: in April 2026, The Guardian reported the film was positioned for release that year and inferred that filming could start in late 2026. That is press reporting and an inference, not a release date confirmed by Amazon MGM. The Guardian’s April 2026 report provides that context.

An earlier Associated Press story from June 2025 suggested a possible 2027 release if production began in 2026. That was a conditional forecast made before the later development updates, not a confirmed schedule. Neither estimate should be treated as an announced date.
