Isla Nublar is a fictional island in the Jurassic Park film continuity, home first to the planned Jurassic Park and later to Jurassic World. Its fate depends on which version of the story you mean: Michael Crichton’s novels and the films do not share one continuous ending. In the films, the island’s story runs from the original park disaster to Jurassic World’s collapse and, according to a secondary chronology, Mount Sibo’s eruption.
Is Isla Nublar real?
No. Isla Nublar is a fictional setting, not a real Costa Rican island that visitors can travel to. The stories place it off Costa Rica, but that fictional geography should not be mistaken for a real-world destination.
Where is Isla Nublar in Jurassic Park?
In the film continuity, Isla Nublar is the location chosen for the original Jurassic Park. It is also the setting for the later Jurassic World resort. The same island therefore connects the two parks, but the books and films tell distinct versions of what happens there.
What happened to Isla Nublar in the films?
A fan-maintained Jurassic Park Wiki chronology summarizes the film-continuity arc as follows; it is a secondary account, rather than an official production timeline.

- 1993: The original Jurassic Park suffers a disaster, and the planned park does not open as intended.
- Later years: A new attraction, Jurassic World, operates on the island.
- 2015: The Indominus rex escapes, precipitating the collapse of Jurassic World.
- 2018: The same secondary chronology says Mount Sibo erupts and devastates the island.
The dates above describe the film timeline as summarized by that fan reference. They should not be blended with the novels’ separate ending.
How does the island’s fate differ in the novels?
Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park has its own continuity. A separate fan-maintained novel-continuity summary says the Costa Rican Air Force bombs the island after the survivors leave. That ending is not the film timeline’s later sequence of Jurassic World’s operation and Mount Sibo’s eruption.

For close reading, the novels and films themselves are the primary sources; franchise wiki pages are useful only as orientation. The franchise reference distinguishes novel and film continuities and treats other licensed material as separate unless it is incorporated into one of them.

The official Jurassic World site describes Jurassic World Rebirth as involving a forbidden island that once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. Its synopsis does not name that island as Isla Nublar. The available official description therefore does not establish that Rebirth returns to Nublar; treat the identity as unconfirmed unless an explicit primary-source confirmation appears.
