Does Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Prove Megumi Is the Series’ Biggest Failure?

Modulo’s official summaries set up a future story around the Okkotsu siblings and Simurians, not a verdict on Megumi. His “biggest failure” label remains an interpretation.

Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen volume 25 and the official Modulo summaries. No: the official Modulo material does not declare Megumi Fushiguro the series’ “biggest failure.” It introduces a future conflict led by the Okkotsu siblings and Simurians, while its collected-volume descriptions focus on that new cast and its events. Megumi’s story can be read as a tragedy of unrealized potential, but calling him the biggest failure is an interpretation—not a verdict established by Modulo’s publisher summaries.

What does Modulo actually establish?

Shueisha places Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo in 2086, 68 years after the Culling Game. Its official synopsis describes the arrival of extraterrestrial Simurians and centers on Okkotsu siblings Yuuka and Tsurugi. The publisher lists three collected volumes; their descriptions spotlight the refugee crisis, Cross, Dabura, Mahoraga, and, in the third volume’s synopsis, Yuji’s appearance.

Those summaries set up a new conflict and future cast. They do not rank Megumi’s character arc, call him a failure, or say his legacy is the series’ worst. That distinction matters: an official plot description is not a creator’s judgment, and the phrase “biggest failure” is not presented there as canon.

Shueisha’s official Modulo page provides the series description, while its collected-volume listings describe the volumes. The official English chapter listings surfaced at VIZ are a reading route where available; access may depend on territory.

Why Megumi’s story invites the “failure” argument

There is a real basis for discussing Megumi’s suffering and the distance between his potential and the life he gets to lead. Shueisha’s volume 25 description says Sukuna sought full control of Megumi’s body and killed Tsumiki after Yorozu incarnated through her. These events make Megumi’s losses central to the tragedy of that stretch of the story.

But suffering is not the same as culpability. The volume description establishes what Sukuna did and what happened to Tsumiki; by itself, it does not show that Megumi caused those events, failed a particular duty, or deserves a series-wide superlative. The same distinction applies to later legacy claims: a bleak outcome may support an interpretation of an unresolved or tragic arc, but it does not prove that Megumi is the story’s greatest failure.

Shueisha’s volume 25 summary is useful plot context, not a scorecard of Megumi’s choices or worth.

What would “biggest failure” mean?

The label only becomes meaningful if the argument defines its measure. “Failure” could mean a gap between stated potential and demonstrated achievement, a decision that causes harm, an ambition left unrealized, or an arc that never resolves. Those are different standards, and they can produce different answers.

  • Quality Construction: Manufactured by Generic to ensure reliable performance and durability
  • Versatile Application: Suitable for various professional and personal use cases
  • Reliable Performance: Consistent quality and functionality for peace of mind
  • Potential versus achievement: Does the story establish a promise for Megumi that he never fulfills, and what counts as fulfillment?
  • Choice versus circumstance: Which outcomes arise from his decisions, and which are imposed by enemies or events outside his control?
  • Consequences: What effects does his conduct have on other characters and the broader story?
  • Resolution: Does the narrative close his arc, or leave important questions open?
  • Comparison: Which other characters’ failed aims, losses, or unfinished arcs are being weighed against his?

Without those criteria, “biggest” is an emphatic reaction rather than a conclusion readers can test. Modulo’s official summaries do not supply a ranking or settle the comparison. A reader can argue that Megumi’s unrealized potential makes his arc especially painful, but should identify that as criticism or interpretation.

What can be said about Megumi’s legacy—and what cannot?

The official descriptions surfaced for Modulo give readers a future setting, a new central cast, and conflict involving the Simurians; they do not themselves offer a judgment of Megumi. That is narrower than saying the complete manga never mentions him. The available official summaries are not chapter-by-chapter evidence, so they cannot establish whether every chapter contains a direct or indirect reference.

Likewise, the surfaced publisher material contains no relevant creator statement calling Megumi a failure and no statistic that could establish a comparative ranking. Treat “Modulo proves Megumi is Jujutsu Kaisen’s biggest failure” as a provocative thesis to assess against the story—not as an official announcement. Readers can consult VIZ’s original-series chapter listings as well as the Modulo listings, subject to regional access, to examine the manga directly.
