That is not proof the split improved the show—but it did give Season 10 more than a passing headline to discuss. The distinction matters: the breakup became television material, while whether that made the series better is a judgment call. Mine is yes, with a caveat about turning private pain into entertainment.
Are Craig and Paige still together?
No. DeSorbo announced on the December 30, 2024 episode of Giggly Squad that she and Conover had decided to end their relationship, saying, “Craig and I have decided to no longer be together.” The Knot reproduced the announcement and reported that she described them as remaining on good terms (The Knot’s relationship timeline).
That public announcement date does not establish the exact date they privately broke up. The distinction became part of the story itself.
What the show had to work with
A relationship already woven through Bravo
The relationship was not a new piece of gossip dropped into Southern Charm. The Knot’s timeline says the pair met through Summer House, later appeared together on Winter House, and confirmed their relationship in 2021. Their lives also involved a New York–Charleston distance and recurring questions about relocation. That cross-show history gave viewers context for why the relationship mattered to Conover and why its ending could reverberate among his Charleston friends.

A conversation among longtime friends
Bravo’s Season 10 recap places Conover discussing the breakup with Shep Rose and Austen Kroll. Conover said DeSorbo told him, “I need to like find myself” and “I have to take control of my life again, and we need to break up.” He also explained his initial silence this way: “I wasn’t gonna f–king say anything ’cause I didn’t want it to be real.” These are Conover’s recollections, not independently established accounts of the private conversation (Bravo’s Season 10 breakup recap).
That exchange is the kind of scene the show can make meaningful: a personal event becomes a conversation between friends who have their own history with one another. The breakup did not need to be treated as a mystery for the discussion to have tension; Conover’s grief and reluctance to speak were already part of what the scene conveyed.

When did the breakup happen? The accounts differ
Conover later told castmates the breakup conversation happened a couple of weeks after Thanksgiving, following what he described as a normal holiday visit. He said he waited to tell friends because he did not want the news public before DeSorbo spoke. Bravo reported those recollections in its Season 10 coverage.
At reunion time, the private timeline remained contested. Bravo reported that Conover said the relationship was uncertain into December. DeSorbo, by contrast, said they had been broken up for a month and that Conover asked her not to say anything; he disputed that characterization (Bravo’s reunion coverage). The accounts should not be flattened into one definitive private breakup date. What is uncontested in the cited coverage is that DeSorbo announced the split publicly on December 30, 2024.

Why the breakup worked as a storyline—and where the line is
It connected personal stakes to the cast’s existing dynamics
Conover’s conversations with Rose and Kroll gave the breakup a place within the show’s existing friendships rather than presenting it only as a headline. The relationship’s history across Bravo series also made the ending legible to viewers who had followed the couple elsewhere. That is a real storytelling advantage: the emotional stakes were already established, and the cast could respond to an event that affected someone in their circle.
It offered reflection, not just immediate reaction
At the reunion, Conover described his perspective with a line that acknowledges both feeling and hindsight: “I was in love with not reality. I was in love with the potential of what I thought we could be.” Bravo’s reunion reporting presents that as his account of the relationship, not as a definitive explanation of DeSorbo’s motives. The contrast between his earlier shock and this later reflection gave the storyline an arc beyond the announcement itself.
But a breakup is not automatically a television win
A relationship ending is a private experience first and TV material second. Viewers can follow the public discussion without treating either person’s version of contested conversations as proven fact. The series got compelling material because it showed people reacting to an emotionally consequential event; the value is weaker if the story is reduced to speculation about who was right or when, exactly, the private ending occurred.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Did it give ‘Southern Charm’ what it needed?
In my view, yes: the breakup gave Season 10 a storyline with continuity, personal stakes and a reason for Conover’s closest castmates to engage with what was happening. It also carried a built-in complication—public announcement and private timeline are not the same thing, and the accounts about the latter conflict. That tension made the story more layered, not less, as long as the show and its coverage leave the disagreement attributed rather than pretending it has been resolved.

That is a case for the breakup as useful story material, not proof it improved ratings or the series overall. Bravo’s cited pages direct viewers to Peacock for Southern Charm; current season availability can change, so check Peacock’s listing before watching.
