IYO SKY beat Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship, then Ripley joined SKY’s WrestleMania title match, Naomi’s cash-in changed a later SKY–Ripley bout into a three-way, and WWE eventually described the former rivals as friends and tag-team champions. That sequence makes the storyline unusually hard to follow—and supports calling it one of WWE’s oddest-booked arcs, though that is an interpretation, not an official ranking.
How the rivalry began with a title change
On March 3, 2025, IYO SKY defeated Rhea Ripley on Raw to win the Women’s World Championship. WWE’s March 24 preview noted that the result came “thanks in part to a disruption at ringside involving Elimination Chamber Match winner Bianca Belair.” WWE’s Raw recap
The result set up a straightforward question: what would Ripley do to regain the championship? WWE’s next major turn was to widen the title picture rather than keep the focus on a one-on-one rematch.
Why did Rhea Ripley keep getting added to Iyo Sky’s title matches?
Ripley inserted herself into the WrestleMania program. On the March 24 Raw contract-signing segment, she interrupted SKY and Bianca Belair, took out both wrestlers, and added her own signature to the document. WWE then promoted a March 31 Raw title match between SKY and Ripley, with Belair as special guest referee. WWE’s preview of the March 31 Raw

That escalation shifted the story from SKY defending against Belair to Ripley forcing her way into the picture. At WrestleMania 41, the championship match was a triple threat involving SKY, Ripley, and Belair—not a singles rematch. WWE’s profile says SKY retained the title. WWE’s IYO SKY profile
Naomi’s cash-in changed the Evolution match
On July 13, 2025, WWE promoted a SKY–Ripley Women’s World Championship match at Evolution. Naomi cashed in during the bout, turning it into a triple threat and winning the championship. WWE’s recap also says SKY accidentally hit the official with a springboard dropkick; while the official was down, Ripley hit a Riptide but could not get a pin count. The title changed hands, but the match did not resolve the rivalry as a clean SKY-versus-Ripley contest. The cash-in added a new contender in the middle of the match, and the downed official affected Ripley’s attempt to pin SKY.
SummerSlam extended the shifting title picture
WWE announced Naomi versus Ripley versus SKY for the Women’s World Championship at SummerSlam 2025. That announcement is evidence that the three-woman title picture continued; it does not establish the match’s result. WWE’s SummerSlam announcement

From title rivals to friends and tag-team champions
WWE’s later profile of Ripley says she formed a friendship with former rival SKY in 2025 and that they captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title together. WWE’s Rhea Ripley profile
This change in alignment is the clearest endpoint for the odd-booking argument. The two wrestlers moved from competing over the Women’s World Championship to being presented as friends and tag partners. That can be read as a surprising reversal, but WWE’s profile does not provide a creative-team explanation for the shift.

What makes the booking feel unusual
The oddness comes from the sequence, not from a documented claim that WWE ranked this among its strangest storylines. The title stakes repeatedly changed shape, while the wrestlers’ relationship moved from rivalry to friendship.
| Dimension | What happened |
|---|---|
| Championship stakes | SKY beat Ripley for the title on March 3; Ripley entered the WrestleMania match, which became a triple threat; Naomi’s Evolution cash-in changed the match in progress and won her the title; WWE later announced a three-way title match for SummerSlam. |
| Character alignment | SKY and Ripley were title rivals; WWE later described them as friends and tag-team champions. |
These are observable changes in the story. Calling them “oddest” is a judgment about how sharply the stakes and alignment shifted, not a verified ranking against other WWE storylines. The official recaps and profiles document what happened but do not state why WWE chose those turns.
