Krypto is the scene-stealing presence in the Superman teaser—not because of a measured audience reaction, but because the super-powered dog gives the film’s larger-than-life world an immediately recognizable companion. DC confirms Krypto is part of Superman (2025); his place in the story also draws on a character who has been part of Superman’s history since 1955.
Why Krypto stands out in the teaser
The headline’s “steals the show” is an editorial judgment, not a reported audience statistic. What makes Krypto a natural focal point is the contrast he brings: he is a canine companion in a superhero story, but his Kryptonian biology gives him extraordinary abilities. DC’s official character profile describes him as “A loyal canine companion and friend to the entire Superman family” and says he possesses the same powers as Kryptonians under a yellow sun.
That profile lists flight, super-strength, super-speed, and super-breath among his powers. These are details about DC’s general version of the character; they should not be read as confirmation that every power or aspect of his history appears in the film.
Krypto’s place in the 2025 film
DC’s film page lists Krypto among the characters in Superman (2025). The official movie site identifies James Gunn as writer and director, David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

The studio presents the movie as combining action, humor, and heart, and describes its Superman as “driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.” That is the studio’s framing of the film, rather than an independent critical judgment. The film opened in U.S. theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025; international release began July 9, 2025. Those dates are historical, not upcoming.
A character with decades of history
Krypto predates the new film by generations. DC’s character profile lists his first appearance as Adventure Comics #210 in 1955. The same profile describes him as a loyal companion to the Superman family, placing the dog within the broader character history rather than establishing that the film follows every detail of that history.
