Steven Stone’s April 9, 2024 article identifies the piece as the Keppel Tiara, a jewel associated with Alice Keppel, the mistress of King Edward VII. According to that retailer-published account, Edward VII gave jewelry to Alice, and much of it passed to her younger daughter, Sonia, later Baroness Ashcombe.
The article says Edward VII bought the tiara in Paris in the early 1900s. It describes it as gold and platinum set with diamonds and synthetic rubies, and says it can be converted into a necklace. Steven Stone also says Camilla has worn it in necklace form. These are details from the retailer’s editorial account, not an official inventory or independently documented provenance record. That is the reported story, not a fact independently established by the sources reviewed. Steven Stone says Charles sought jewelry once owned by Alice Keppel and describes the Keppel Tiara as an heirloom he tracked down for Camilla. An AOL article published March 19, 2026 repeats the account while tracing it to Steven Stone; it does not provide separate confirmation. What is known about its value?
In the 2024 Steven Stone article, the company’s managing director, Zack Stone, estimated the tiara’s value at £35,000. He described it as “one of Camilla’s least valuable tiaras” and said, “I’d estimate it to be worth £35,000.” This is a named retailer executive’s estimate, not an independent appraisal, verified sale price, or current valuation. AOL’s roughly $44,000 headline figure is a conversion of that estimate, not a second valuation.
Is the Keppel Tiara part of the Royal Collection?
The available sources describe the Keppel Tiara as a personal family heirloom; they do not establish its ownership or place it in the Royal Collection. That distinction matters: the Royal Collection Trust says the Royal Collection is held by the Sovereign in trust for successors and the nation, rather than owned by the monarch as a private individual. How it differs from the coronation jewels
The Keppel Tiara should not be confused with jewelry worn for the coronation. The Royal Collection Trust’s 2023 account of the coronation outfits says the Coronation Necklace was made for Queen Victoria in 1858 and has been worn at every coronation since 1902.
