Kimberlin Brown’s 2024 comments came after The Bold and the Beautiful aired what looked like Sheila Carter’s death. Brown said the moment was difficult and that she was unsure Sheila could return. It was not a permanent exit: the show later revealed that the woman Steffy Forrester stabbed was Sheila’s lookalike, Sugar, and Brown returned.
Why Sheila Carter’s exit looked final in 2024
In the February 26, 2024 episode, Steffy stabbed Sheila. Contemporary coverage described the scene as the end of Brown’s latest run on the soap. Brown told Us Weekly that she was struggling with the moment: “It’s a tough place for me to be in right now. I’m not going to lie about this.”
Brown also said she was glad Steffy was the one to take Sheila down, if anyone had to. The death scene was emotionally taxing and physically demanding; Brown recalled lying on concrete during filming.
What Brown said about possibly leaving the show
In a longer interview with TV Insider, Brown described being sad that the work had ended and wishing she could continue playing Sheila longer. She was grateful for the role and open to returning to daytime television, but her immediate assessment was uncertain: “This one might be tough to come back from.”

Those remarks reflected what Brown and viewers understood at the time: the episode presented Sheila’s death as real. They were not confirmation that Brown would never appear on the series again.

No—not permanently. The story later revealed that the woman killed by Steffy was Sugar, Sheila’s lookalike. Brown returned as Sheila, reversing the apparent 2024 departure. The distinction matters: Brown’s interviews captured her reaction to a seemingly final exit, while the show subsequently changed the story’s premise.

In an April 10, 2026 report, Parade said neither Brown nor the show had indicated that Sheila’s time on the series was over. The report discussed a newer storyline involving Sheila, Deacon, and Taylor. That later status should not be confused with the uncertainty Brown expressed in 2024.

Brown first played Sheila on The Young and the Restless in 1990. Sheila crossed over to The Bold and the Beautiful in 1992. Her appearances across the years have been intermittent, and Brown has described Sheila as a character who comes and goes from storylines—not as a role she played continuously on screen for decades.
