Kim Kardashian later said she knew during her honeymoon with Kris Humphries that the marriage would not work. She also described feeling pressure to marry at 30 as friends were having children. The formal reason reported in her 2011 divorce filing was “irreconcilable differences”—a legal phrase distinct from her later personal explanation.
What Kardashian said about why the marriage ended
In a 2017 interview on Watch What Happens Live, Kardashian said, “I knew, like, [from the] honeymoon it wasn’t going to work out.” She also described feeling that she needed to get married because she was 30, and compared herself with friends who were having children. ABC News reported her comments on May 29, 2017.
Her account was about her own doubts and the pressure she felt; it does not establish a single event or dispute as the cause of the breakup. It also came years after the divorce filing, so it should not be confused with the formal wording in that filing.
What the 2011 divorce filing said
When Kardashian filed on October 31, 2011, the reported reason was “irreconcilable differences.” In a public statement, she said, “After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” adding that she had hoped it would be forever and wished Humphries well. ABC News reported the filing and statement that day.

That formal phrase and Kardashian’s later comments answer different questions: the filing stated the legal basis reported at the time, while the later interview gave her personal account of realizing the relationship would not work.
How the 72 days fit into the timeline
Kardashian and Humphries married on August 20, 2011. The wedding was televised as an E! special; CBS News described it as a four-hour broadcast. Kardashian filed for divorce on October 31, and the marriage was widely described in later coverage as lasting 72 days. That figure refers to the marriage, not the time it took to resolve the divorce.

- August 20, 2011: The wedding took place.
- October 31, 2011: Kardashian filed for divorce.
- December 1, 2011: Humphries’ annulment filing alleged fraud, according to Entertainment Tonight.
- April 19, 2013: The divorce became final, CBS News reported.
Humphries’ response and the fraud allegation
After the divorce filing, Humphries initially said he loved Kardashian and wanted to make the marriage work. He later sought an annulment, alleging fraud. Kardashian denied that allegation, and the divorce was ultimately finalized in 2013. The allegation should be attributed to Humphries: the cited coverage does not establish that fraud was proven or that a court found the marriage fraudulent. CBS News Los Angeles reported the finalization and the dispute on April 19, 2013.

The most direct answer is that Kardashian later said she recognized on the honeymoon that the marriage was not going to work, and that she had felt pressure to marry at 30. Her filing had used the formal term “irreconcilable differences.” Humphries’ separate fraud claim was an allegation he made in seeking an annulment, not an established explanation or finding.
