Swathi dreams of opening a restaurant in fictional Mainjur, South India. When a death upends her plans, she and her lover attempt an audacious substitution: replacing her husband with the man she loves. The premise turns domestic betrayal into the engine for crime, concealment and dark comedy.

Cast and creative team
Abhishek Chaubey directed, co-wrote and showran the series. Unaiza Merchant, Anant Tripathi and Harshad Nalawade are among the other credited creators and writers. The principal cast includes Konkona Sensharma, Manoj Bajpayee, Nassar, Sayaji Shinde, Lal, Anula Navlekar, Anbuthasan and Kani Kusruti. Netflix’s official announcement carries the credits and Chaubey’s description of the intended mix: “permission to laugh and also be totally shocked.” That is the creative aim, rather than a guarantee of how the comedy lands.
Does the dark comedy work?
The comic approach is deliberately heightened: the absurdity of Swathi’s plan keeps colliding with the consequences of a crime. That clash gives the series its identity, but it also makes humor a matter of taste. The Indian Express critic said they kept waiting for laughs, while Scroll described hectic absurdist energy that brings diminishing returns. Hindustan Times and NDTV were more favorable toward the dark-comedy-and-crime blend. These are individual reviews, not a single critical consensus.

The performances help hold the eccentric premise together. Scroll singled out Sensharma as an anchor, and OTTplay praised the cast even while finding the series tiring and circular. Bajpayee is a key part of the central ensemble, but the show’s appeal rests on more than one performance: its crowded world depends on actors sustaining the story’s shifting mix of menace, farce and melodrama.
Does the investigation keep the story moving?
The crime investigation provides a counterweight to Swathi’s scheme, but it does not turn the series into a straight procedural. The premise invites complications and detours; whether those feel like escalating absurdity or circular plotting is a dividing line in the reviews. OTTplay found the narrative tiring and repetitive, while other critics were more receptive to the show’s dark-comic combination.

That tension matters across eight episodes. If you want a tightly advancing mystery or consistently punchy jokes, the meandering, eccentric rhythm may frustrate you. If you enjoy ensemble crime stories that let absurdity take over, the same unpredictability may be the point.

Watch it for the cast and the collision of crime with absurdity, rather than expecting a conventional investigation or reliable joke-per-minute rhythm.
