Rapper Scott Mescudi, known as Kid Cudi, testified for the prosecution in Sean “Diddy” Combs’s federal trial in Manhattan on May 22, 2025. He described his brief relationship with Casandra Ventura, known as Cassie, an alleged intrusion at his home, and a fire that damaged his Porsche. These were accounts given in court—not findings that Combs committed the alleged acts. The jury later acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, while convicting him on two transportation-to-engage-in-prostitution counts.
Why Kid Cudi testified
Cudi’s testimony concerned his relationship with Ventura in 2011, when she was Combs’s on-and-off partner. Reuters reported that Cudi said Combs learned the two were dating. The testimony offered the jury Cudi’s account of events connected to that relationship; it did not itself establish Combs’s guilt on the charges before the jury.

What Cudi said happened at his home
According to the Associated Press’s account of his testimony, Ventura called Cudi after Combs learned about their relationship. Cudi said he took her to a hotel in West Hollywood and later learned that Combs and an associate had been at his home.
Cudi testified that when he returned, Combs was gone. He said he found Christmas presents opened and his dog locked in a bathroom, and then called police. These details are Cudi’s reported courtroom account, not an independent finding by the court.

What happened to Cudi’s Porsche
Cudi testified that his Porsche 911 convertible was damaged by a fire weeks after the alleged home intrusion. The AP reported that jurors saw photographs of the damage and heard that a Molotov cocktail was found on the passenger seat. Cudi said he believed Combs was responsible. After the defense objected to a remark about Combs’s responsibility, the judge instructed jurors to disregard it. The testimony and photographs do not amount to a jury finding that Combs caused the fire.
What Cudi said about Ventura and their breakup
ABC News reported that Cudi testified he and Ventura broke up because “things were getting out of hand,” and that he was concerned for both of their safety. He also testified that Ventura told him Combs “would hit her, sometimes kick her.” ABC’s update attributed to Cudi in court the statement, “I knew Sean Combs was violent.” These are accounts reported from testimony, not judicial findings about the sex-trafficking charges.

What the jury decided—and what happened afterward
In July 2025, the jury acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex-trafficking charges, but convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. On October 3, 2025, Reuters reported that he was sentenced to more than four years in prison on those convictions. Reuters’s sentencing report said his lawyer stated he would appeal the sentence; it does not establish what happened with any appeal afterward.
