Ballerini said she chose to give him the house because she wanted out of the marriage. That is her recollection of a conversation with her team, not a court finding or a verified interpretation of the prenup.
What Ballerini said about the house and alimony
In the interview, Ballerini recalled asking her team whether her choice was to give up half of the house she said she bought, or proceed with what she described as difficult alimony language and potentially prolonged public hearings. She said Evans had contributed to the house, but “not equal,” in her characterization.
She recalled her response as: “Give them the house. I want out. I want out. Give me out.” The episode transcript records her account; coverage by ABC News also summarizes the interview. Her words describe what she says she was told and decided. They do not establish that Evans was legally entitled to half the house or that Ballerini was legally required to pay alimony.
What is—and is not—established about the dispute
| Source | What it establishes | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Ballerini’s February 2023 interview | Her account that her team described a choice involving the house or alimony proceedings, and that she chose to leave. | The exact language of the prenup, the legal merits of either interpretation, or an independently verified account of who paid what toward the house. |
| Evans’s public response, as reported by the Los Angeles Times | He disputed Ballerini’s account, saying it was not reality and left out what happened. | A detailed alternative account of the property terms or a resolution of the disagreement. |
| Settlement coverage by Entertainment Tonight and Us Weekly | Reports that the couple settled and that coverage described them moving out of their Nashville home and dividing its sale proceeds. | The precise prenup terms or proof that the reported settlement unfolded as Ballerini recalled the negotiations. |
The available accounts therefore leave the central disagreement unresolved. A settlement report describes an outcome; it does not, by itself, verify either party’s account of the earlier negotiation.

In a statement reproduced by the Los Angeles Times, Evans said it was “really sad” to see someone he had loved say things that “aren’t reality” and “leave out what really happened.” He added, “If this is what she needs to heal, I hope it helps.” His response rejected her account but did not provide detailed property terms in the cited report.
