Kristen Stewart was replaced by Riley Keough in Karim Aïnouz’s film Rosebush Pruning. The September 26, 2024 casting announcement confirmed the change but did not give a reason for Stewart’s departure.
Who replaced Kristen Stewart?
Fremantle’s September 26, 2024 announcement said Riley Keough joined Rosebush Pruning in Stewart’s place. It also confirmed that Callum Turner replaced Josh O’Connor. The announcement listed Elle Fanning, Jamie Bell, Lukas Gage, Tracy Letts, Elena Anaya and Pamela Anderson among the cast.
Stewart had been announced as a lead in the project on May 20, 2024, when it was styled Rosebushpruning. The later announcement explicitly identified Keough and Turner as her and O’Connor’s replacements. Fremantle’s casting announcement is the primary confirmation; Screen Global Production independently reported the changes.
Why did Kristen Stewart leave the film?
No reason was stated in Fremantle’s announcement or the Screen Global Production report. Those sources confirm the replacement, not its cause, so it would be speculation to attribute Stewart’s departure to scheduling, creative differences or any other explanation.

What is Rosebush Pruning about?
The film is directed by Karim Aïnouz and adapts Marco Bellocchio’s Fists in the Pocket, according to Fremantle’s May 2024 project announcement. Screen Global Production described the story as following a young man with epilepsy who plots murders within his dysfunctional family. That synopsis is the trade publication’s account.

Fremantle said production was underway in Spain in its September 26, 2024 announcement. That records the status at the time; the announcement does not establish a current production or release update.
