Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner sued Ray J, whose legal name is William Ray Norwood Jr., in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that he falsely tied them to an impending federal racketeering investigation. The lawsuit asserts defamation and false-light claims. A judge’s reported denial of Ray J’s request to dismiss those claims let the case proceed; it did not decide whether the statements were true or legally defamatory.
What Kardashian and Jenner allege Ray J said
The complaint focuses on two episodes. It says that on May 30, 2025, Ray J appeared on the Fox/Tubi special TMZ Presents: United States v. Sean Combs and said racketeering charges against the Kardashians would be appropriate, adding that he might believe they were being charged. The filing alleges that the remarks falsely portrayed Kardashian and Jenner as targets of a federal criminal investigation.

The complaint also cites a social-media livestream on September 24, 2025. It quotes Ray J as saying, “The federal RICO I’m about to drop on Kris and Kim is about to be crazy” and “the feds is coming.” Kardashian and Jenner allege these remarks likewise conveyed that a federal racketeering investigation involving them was impending.
What the lawsuit asks the court to decide
Kardashian and Jenner filed claims for defamation and false-light publicity and demanded a jury trial. They say no such investigation or related criminal proceedings existed and allege reputational, financial, and emotional harm. The complaint states: “No such federal investigation exists; no law enforcement agency has initiated any criminal proceedings or investigations related to racketeering charges against Ms. Kardashian or Ms. Jenner; and no credible evidence whatsoever supports these inflammatory allegations.” That is the plaintiffs’ assertion in their pleading, not a court finding. The materials cited in contemporaneous coverage do not independently establish whether law enforcement conducted an investigation.

The Los Angeles Times reported in 2025 that the plaintiffs sought damages exceeding $35,000. That figure is what the newspaper reported about their demand, not an award or a finding of loss.
What the judge decided—and what remains undecided
According to an August 12, 2026, report by TMZ, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge denied Ray J’s attempt to dismiss the defamation and false-light claims. The report says his lawyer, Howard King, announced an intention to appeal. An announced intention is not confirmation that an appeal was filed or decided.

The dismissal ruling was procedural: it allowed the claims to continue. It did not determine whether Ray J made the statements as alleged, whether they were false, or whether they meet the legal standards for defamation or false light. Those issues were not resolved by denying dismissal.

The contract case is distinct from Kardashian and Jenner’s defamation lawsuit. The August 2026 TMZ report said Ray J’s separate case over discussion of the sex tape on Hulu remained pending. A secondary case summary describes Ray J as alleging that Kardashian and Jenner breached a confidential agreement from 2023 by discussing the tape on The Kardashians. That is his allegation, not an established breach, and it is not the claim at issue in the defamation ruling.
