The next hearing was reported as May 7. Later coverage said Evan Johnson pleaded guilty to domestic assault at that proceeding and was taken into custody.
What Malec revealed about the upcoming court date
In a social-media update reported by PEOPLE on April 25, Malec said her court date was approaching and described the prospect of returning to Nashville as exciting and nerve-racking. PEOPLE reported that the next hearing was scheduled for May 7, 2025. At the time of Malec’s announcement, the appearance was still in the future.
How the case reached the hearing
The Daily Dot reported on April 22 that court records identified Malec as the alleged victim in a domestic-assault case. The publication also reported that Johnson had denied wrongdoing in response to her public allegations at that time. It said Malec had described abuse allegations in videos on April 4 and that Johnson was arrested and charged on April 7. Those earlier allegations and denial should be distinguished from the later reported court outcome.
What later reports said happened on May 7
Us Weekly reported that Johnson pleaded guilty to domestic assault at the May 7 proceeding and was taken into custody. Its account attributed the plea and a restriction on his social-media accounts to NBC News reporting based on court documents; Us Weekly said a court representative confirmed he was in custody. The reported restriction barred Johnson from operating TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook accounts in his name.

Her Campus reported on May 10 that Malec described the hearing as ending in a guilty plea and sentence. It quoted her reaction: “Nothing feels real still,” Malec said in her TikTok. Her Campus attributed to Malec the statement that Johnson received 18 months in jail for a misdemeanor. That sentence detail is Malec’s account as reported by the publication; an official judgment was not independently reviewed here.
What remains unconfirmed
Her Campus also reported that Malec was considering further charges in California and Hawaii, without giving a timeline. That describes possible future action, not a confirmed filing. Later docket activity, any proceedings in those states, and Johnson’s current custody status are not established by the cited reports.
