Kaitlyn Dever said she had fun playing Eve Baxter on Last Man Standing, enjoyed working with Tim Allen and Nancy Travis, and often laughed with Allen on set. In later comments, she credited the sitcom with strengthening her confidence and comedic timing. Those are Dever’s recorded descriptions of her experience—not a basis for guessing at feelings she did not discuss publicly.
Dever said playing Eve was fun
In a MediaMikes interview published February 8, 2012, Dever described Eve as “totally different from who I am in real life.” Still, she said the character’s sharp remarks came naturally because Dever herself has a dry sense of humor. She summed up playing the role simply: “It’s a lot of fun.”

Dever also singled out Eve’s wit, saying, “I love how she always has the smart comments.” Her remarks suggest she enjoyed that part of the performance, even though she saw the character as unlike her in other respects.
She enjoyed working with Allen and Nancy Travis
Asked about having Allen and Travis as Eve’s on-screen parents, Dever called it “really cool.” She said she had been excited after booking the pilot and described Travis as feeling like a second mom. She also said the cast was fun to work with.

- Last Man Standing - DVD Brand New
Dever recalled Allen joking around on set and sometimes beginning to laugh in the middle of a take. She could not choose one funniest off-camera moment, explaining that there had been too many.
By 2016, she was talking about what she learned
In an Assignment X interview published January 29, 2016, Dever said, “Yeah. I always love coming back here.” She credited her time on the show with helping her confidence and comedic timing, and said Allen offered guidance during live tapings: “I’ve learned so much from Tim, he’s always helping me out on the sidelines during our live tapings.”

She also described the two of them laughing at each other, especially when they could tell one was about to lose a line. Taken together, her comments point to an enjoyable working relationship and a useful learning experience, as she described them herself.
What is known about their relationship off screen
Dever’s interviews provide the clearest direct account of her own experience: she enjoyed the role, the cast, and the humor on set, and valued what she learned from Allen. In a 2021 interview with TheWrap, showrunner Kevin Abbott offered his separate perspective, saying Allen and Dever had “such a special relationship” and that Allen felt fatherly toward her. That is Abbott’s characterization, not a statement from Dever.

Why Eve appeared remotely in the finale
Abbott told TheWrap that Dever’s final scene as Eve was filmed remotely because she was working on Dear Evan Hansen and COVID-era quarantine logistics prevented an in-person appearance. The production circumstance explains the remote scene; it does not change what Dever said about her earlier experience on the sitcom.

ABC identifies Allen as Mike Baxter and Dever as Eve Baxter, members of the family at the center of the sitcom. ABC’s official series page links to Hulu, but that link alone does not establish whether the show is currently available in a particular country’s catalog.
