Kendrick Lamar was announced on September 8, 2024, as the headliner of the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. He shared the news on social media with the words “Super Bowl LIX. New Orleans.” The game and halftime show took place on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
How Kendrick Lamar’s selection was announced
The NFL reported that Lamar announced his selection on social media on September 8, 2024. His post read: “Super Bowl LIX. New Orleans.” The NFL’s announcement named him as the performer headlining the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. The NFL announcement also said the game was scheduled to air on FOX.
Lamar framed the booking as an opportunity to speak for rap music: “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why,” he said in a statement. “They got the right one.”
What the announcement said about the show
The NFL described the halftime show as a collaboration involving Lamar, Roc Nation and Apple Music. NFL head of music Seth Dudowsky praised Lamar’s cultural impact and ability to create performances that resonate, and said the partners were excited to work together on the show.
