The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a formal portrait on December 3, 2025, ahead of the German state banquet at Windsor Castle. People described the image as showing the couple beside a lit Christmas tree at Frogmore House; it was a banquet portrait, not their family Christmas-card photo.
What the portrait shows
In the portrait, Catherine and William pose beside a lit Christmas tree in formal evening attire. People credited the photograph to Alex Bramall and identified Frogmore House as its location. Those details come from People’s report; the Royal Household’s event account confirms the banquet and the couple’s attendance, but does not independently identify the portrait, its photographer or where it was taken.
The Waleses’ caption, as reported by People, read: “Looking forward to a special banquet tonight in Windsor 🇩🇪🇬🇧.” Its festive setting may bring a Christmas card to mind, but this was a portrait shared for a formal engagement, not evidence of the couple’s annual family card.
The occasion: a German state visit
The portrait was released in connection with the state banquet held at Windsor Castle on December 3, 2025. The Royal Household records that King Charles III hosted German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender that evening, with the Prince and Princess of Wales among the guests.
