Kailyn Lowry’s son Elliott Rivera publicly shared that he is gay during a June 2025 conversation with his mother on the Barely Famous podcast. Reported as 15 at the time and previously known publicly as Isaac, he said he wanted to tell his story himself and preferred to go by Elliott, his middle name.
What Elliott shared on the podcast
The conversation was published on Barely Famous on June 5, 2025, according to E! News, which reported on it the following day. Elliott said he was gay and explained that his first name no longer felt like him. He asked to be called Elliott, his middle name; that is the name used in the coverage of his disclosure.
Elliott also spoke about the experience of growing up on television. E! reported him saying that it was difficult to show who he really was with a camera in front of him so often. In a separate report, Parade quoted him saying, “I want to be clear that this is for me.” He described wanting to share the news on his own terms.
How Lowry responded
Lowry expressed support during the podcast conversation. E! reported her saying, “It only affects you and who you love is who you love.”

In a June 11 interview with Teen Vogue, Lowry and Elliott discussed the disclosure further. Later, in a June 18 interview reported by Parade, Lowry said Elliott’s father, Jo Rivera, had listened to the podcast episodes and was proud of him.
