It was not just a joke, though the timing made it look like one. The collaboration also included a matching KFC-branded toothbrush, and contemporary reporting said both products sold out shortly after launch.
What KFC and Hismile released
The collaboration paired KFC’s Original Recipe branding with Hismile novelty oral-care products. Hismile described the toothpaste as inspired by KFC’s 11 herbs and spices; product reporting described it as fluoride-free. Hypebeast also reported a matching limited-edition toothbrush.
Hismile’s promotional copy, reproduced by Business Standard, called it “like biting into a crispy, hot, juicy piece of KFC Original Recipe Chicken.” That is marketing language, not an independently verified taste assessment. The reviewed reporting does not establish clinical testing or dental benefits.
Why the April Fools’ timing caused confusion
The release landed on April Fools’ Day, but KFC said the product was real. Business Standard reproduced KFC’s Instagram message: “Not a prank. It is here. And it’s Finger Lickin’ Good.” The launch is best understood as a limited-edition collaboration, not ordinary KFC food or a recurring menu item.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What it cost and whether it is still available
Business Standard reported launch-period prices of $13 for the toothpaste and $59 for the matching toothbrush, and said both had sold out by April 10, 2025. Those figures describe the reported launch period; they do not establish current prices or stock. No unit sales total was reported, so the sellout claim does not show how many were made or sold.
Because the toothpaste was reported as fluoride-free, the story does not support recommending it as a replacement for conventional dental products. Nor does the reported launch establish that the items can still be bought.

KFC’s history of novelty marketing
The toothpaste fits a broader pattern of playful KFC promotions, though the sources do not establish a direct link between those earlier campaigns and the Hismile partnership.
Chicken-scented sunscreen in 2016
In August 2016, KFC announced 3,000 free bottles of SPF 30 Extra Crispy sunscreen for U.S. residents. The chicken-scented product was presented as an extension of the “Extra Crispy” campaign. KFC’s announcement quoted then-U.S. chief marketing officer Kevin Hochman saying the sunscreen was “a fun way to leverage that delicious aroma,” and joking, “While I’d love to tell you our customers have been asking for this, they haven’t.”

The Innovations Lab and other branded items
In 2019, KFC described its Innovations Lab as a way to bring unusual marketing ideas to life through crowdfunding. The company cited earlier novelty merchandise including branded clothing, a firelog and a Colonel Sanders floatie. That history gives context for the toothpaste, but it does not mean the 2025 collaboration came from the lab.
