The official material does not say that any character “replaces” Sukuna or is Jujutsu Kaisen’s “scariest villain yet.” It does, however, put Dabura in a major clash with Mahoraga, making him a clear candidate for that interpretation. Calling him a Sukuna successor is an argument about the story—not an official ranking—and the available summaries alone do not establish that he is more frightening than Sukuna.
What villain replaces Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo?
If the question is which new character most plausibly occupies the story’s major-threat role, the best-supported answer is Dabura. Shueisha’s official volume 3 synopsis names a fight between Dabura and Mahoraga. That is a substantial signal of his importance, but it is not proof that he is the story’s villain, that he has taken Sukuna’s place, or that he is more dangerous.

The distinction matters: Sukuna was an established antagonist whose menace developed through the original manga. A brief volume synopsis cannot provide the same evidence about Dabura’s motives, conduct, or effect on the protagonists. The headline’s “scariest” claim is therefore best read as a provocative interpretation, not a canon fact.
What is Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo?
Shueisha’s official series page places Modulo in 2086, 68 years after the Culling Game. Its premise begins with a spaceship and the arrival of extraterrestrials who call themselves Simurians. The Okkotsu siblings Yuta and Tsurugi are central to the fate of Earth.

Shueisha credits Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki. The official franchise site says the short serialization began in September 2025 and that all three collected volumes are on sale. The original Jujutsu Kaisen manga concluded in September 2024, according to the same franchise site.
What the published summaries reveal about the conflict
The official volume descriptions establish a widening conflict, but do not assign a definitive villain label to every character involved.
Rank #2
- Volumes 1 and 2: The summaries introduce the Simurian arrival and describe Cross’s stance toward coexistence with Earth’s people changing.
- Volume 3: The synopsis names Dabura fighting Mahoraga, Tsurugi clashing with Maru while trying to save Yuka, and Yuji Itadori appearing.
Those are consequential story beats, not a full account of why the characters fight or what they want. The volume 3 summary makes Dabura the obvious focus for a threat comparison, while the Tsurugi–Maru clash shows that the conflict is not reducible to one opponent replacing Sukuna.
How the Sukuna comparison holds up
A “scariest villain” ranking depends on what frightening means. The official summaries offer a limited basis for comparison:
- Threat: Dabura is named in a fight with Mahoraga, establishing a major confrontation. The summary does not state its outcome or quantify his power.
- Motivation and cruelty: The cited summaries do not explain Dabura’s aims or describe his treatment of others. They cannot support a conclusion that he is crueler than Sukuna.
- Stakes: Modulo’s premise puts Earth’s fate at issue and frames coexistence between Simurians and Earth’s people as part of the story. The summaries do not establish that Dabura alone embodies that danger.
- Effect on the protagonists: The Okkotsu siblings are central to the fate of Earth, and Tsurugi’s volume 3 clash is tied to his attempt to save Yuka. The available descriptions do not detail how Dabura personally changes their choices or fears.
On this evidence, Dabura is a plausible new powerhouse and a candidate for a central antagonist, but “Sukuna replaced” and “scarier than Sukuna” go beyond what the official summaries confirm. A stronger verdict would require the full chapter-level context of his goals, actions, and consequences.
